James,

I don’t think that this needs to be confrontational. I apologize if I offended you. You had your opinion, please let me have mine. As I said, I am looking forward to meeting you and sharing your experiences. I believe that you are much more traveled than I. By the way, I did gain some insight from your posted travel experience and I have been to the Ludwig Castle. Let’s just say that we look forward to meeting each other—that’s a positive expectation.

Best Regards,
Donna Terhune

We are Donna Terhune and Janis Weiks, sisters from Olympia, WA. This is our first big trip together and our first adventure with the Road Scholar program. We would welcome any pre-trip traveling advice from you experienced travelers.

Garrett and Judith McAinsh Aug 29, 2014 at 04:24 PM

Hi all - We are Judy and Garrett McAinsh, from Little Rock. . Garrett is a retired historian, Judy still works part time. We will be on the October 15-31 trip, and look forward to meeting all others.
James Krikau Aug 30, 2014 at 10:26 AM

Garret and Judith - we took the trip a couple of years ago and it was generally outstanding. The guides in typical Road Scholar fashion were subject matter experts and made the trip so educational. One major drawback, I have to say, is the visit to Ludwig's Castle (aka model for Disneyland's). Very disappointing in that we were hearded inside with about 50-60 other people and if you were in the back of the crowd, you heard nothing. There was no view of the outside worth much, so save your picture from the cover of the trip itinerary. Finally, the shuttle service to and from the castle was TERRIBLE. Very rude and uncaring employees.

James, maybe for the new travelers, you could have withheld negative comments. Nothing was gained by your opinion.
Donna Terhune Sep 13, 2014 at 09:03 PM

Although, I am still looking forward to meeting you and have you share your experiences with us.
James Krikau Sep 13, 2014 at 09:53 PM

First of all, I wasn't responding to you. My response was to someone else who asked for a viewpoint. As in anything, folks will find out for themselves as you will when you take the trip. Also reread my comments - I enjoyed the trip except for Ludwig's castle

judge for yourself. You may not have gained anything from my comments, but that's your issue, not mine. I was there - you weren't.

Light packing for me means much mixing and hopefully matching. We are two friends who met in grade school and are travelling together; now believe the trip is actually happening. We were very concerned with flooding. (Linda Smith & Mary Sutton from Texas)

James Krikau Jul 21, 2013 at 03:03 PM

I double-checked with Amaway cruise lines to make sure what the voltage is on board. It is as I suspected, 220-240 volts with European outlets (2 prong). Just an FYI for those who may have cruised on other lines which provide 110-120 volt outlets.

James Krikau Jul 11, 2013 at 09:33 AM

In packing for this trip, I have noted a Captain's Dinner, but am unclear as to how to dress for it. Given the suggestions for "light packing" for this trip, I am wondering what others are planning to wear for this occasion. Thanks!

We are the McClures and are presently with family near Frankfurt. We are watching news regarding the terrible flooding. The Danube is closed for all shipping. Is there an alternate plan for our trip?

Andrea Sanders Jun 05, 2013 at 09:26 AM

Has anyone heard whether AMA will be able to give us the cruise we paid for due to flooding?
