This may be first post for 2015 Assisi trip. I see only 2013 posts.
Anyone arriving day early in Florence?

Carol Molten Nov 23, 2013 at 03:28 PM

Hi to all going to Assisi for Christmas. It will be so beautiful. Yes, do take a walking stick. There is uneven pavement, nothing is flat, and there are lots of steps with no handrails. About Florence -definitely worth even a short trip. Taxis are indeed plentiful and inexpensive.

As Assisi is on a hill and it will be wet and maybe icy (though lows are supposed to be around 41)in December I'm wondering if I should bring a walking stick? I've only found it handy on one trip (climbing wet slippery stones in ruins)and hate to pack it if not going to use it. Opinions?

I'm wondering if I should take a walking stick with me to Assisi for the Christmas trip. Wet cobblestone steps, perhaps icy might be a little tricky though average low is only 41. Though I've found it handy on another trip I don't want to pack it along if not needed. What do you intrepid travelers out there think?

Ellin Ifft Nov 15, 2013 at 12:24 AM

I'm arriving two days early because airline connections work better then from my small hometown. I'm leaving from Denver for Frankfort. I've never arrived at a program early but understand Florence is easy with taxis readily available.

Great idea to have extra time in Florence. You'll love Florence and it's easy to get around by foot. I'll see you in Florence. Have a very nice Thanksgiving.

Gina McMurran Nov 13, 2013 at 01:58 PM

I'm enrolled in the Christmas in Assisi program and was wondering if anyone from the West Coast and, in particular from the Northwest is also attending. Would love to hear from you.
Ellin Ifft Nov 13, 2013 at 11:50 PM

I'm a Montanan (not exactly Northwest but almost!) and will be with you in Assisi for Christmas. I was in Assisi many years ago for two days on another tour and have always wanted to spend more time there. I think it will be magical and make wonderful Christmas memories. That said I'm packing layers of warm clothes as it will be cold and rainy (perhaps snow). Did you see the comment from Carol Molten that the churches are heated only minimally.
Gina McMurran Nov 14, 2013 at 04:17 PM

Thanks for your packing reminders. Look forward to meeting you in Assisi or even maybe before. I'm leaving from SEA, flying to Frankfurt and then to Florence.
Helen Sternheim Nov 14, 2013 at 07:09 PM

It is a long trip frm the East coast to Hawaii. I might pay to go a day early and stay overmight in CA.

Carol Molten Sep 25, 2013 at 10:56 PM

Yes, it can be quite cold in the mountains, and snow is not impossible. Dress warmly, including scarf, hat, gloves and warm socks and shoes. The churches are heated only minimally.
