My husband and I are also signed up for the December 2014 trip. Any thoughts about the difficulty/scariness of the rappelling?
Sari Oxman Aug 25, 2014 at 08:28 PM

Loved the rappelling, not difficult or scary. Everyone in our group loved it. Guides were very thorough going over rappelling and they were in complete control. The difficult part I found was the hike up to the spot. There had been a lot of rain and the rocks and ground were quite slippery. I recommend either hiking boots/shoes or running shoes used for trail running that have good tread. Enjoy

Hi,Audrey! Dave and I look forward to meeting you both. As of now, we are planning this: Dave wants to try the rappelling, but I really don't like heights. The cave float sounds interesting to me, and unless I'm convinced otherwise, we'll go separate ways that day.
Audrey Smolin Aug 25, 2014 at 10:49 PM

Somewhat intimidated by a 300 foot rappel but would like to try. We'll see. Both options sound interesting and challenging. Will look forward to sharing our adventures with you.
Frank Ernst Aug 26, 2014 at 03:18 PM

The rapelling was a real hoot. I used my Go Pro camera to make a video which I enjoy watching. The guides are in complete control of your decent.

My husband and I are signed up for the Dec, 2014 trip. Anyone else? One question we have for those who've already gone: did you have any safety concerns, especially in Guatemala? The State Dept. lists it as "critical", but from what we've read online, traveling with a group should be okay.
Frank Ernst Jul 12, 2014 at 02:25 PM

I went last Dec. and we were perfectly safe there: however, i would not suggest walking at night or alone. You will love the ATM cave in Belize.

No safety concerns in Guatemala, Rene is the perfect guide and will instruct you regarding safety issues. I can say that the armed guards were a little unnerving and I was glad to return to Belize. The ruins in Guatemala are not to be missed though.
Sharon H Jul 12, 2014 at 04:29 PM

Thank you, both! That's very good to hear. We're looking forward to the trip very much.

Anyone going to the 4/25 trip to Belize and Honduras? Based on below reviews it sounds great.

Carolyn Houg Feb 24, 2014 at 02:42 PM

This was the best trip ever and I have been on 8 others. Wonderful variety, physical challenges, beautiful locals, and fun companions. The cave adventure and the repelling are not to be missed.

I took the 2/10-19 trip & was definitely not impressed (except by the fabulous Rene). We had an "eco-guide" on our first trip whose speech was unintelligible, & he raced another tour boat back to the docks from Lamani...kind of scary. I also paid for a single room, and there were no security locks on the doors at two of the lodges...and we had good reason to wish for dead-bolts, chains, and lock-bolts.

Ruth Brock Feb 23, 2014 at 12:39 PM

Just returned from this trip on February 19, wonderful experience, do not miss the cave adventure - it was awesome. I traveled with a great group of fellow participants, lots of shared laughter. Rene was the perfect guide, food was delicious. Overall, a program not to be missed.

Barry Minehart Feb 15, 2014 at 03:51 PM

We are going on the Feb 21st trip also...Barry and Bev from Los Angeles. Does anyone know how many participants?

Lorie Lucky Jan 09, 2014 at 04:13 PM

I'm also coming on the February 10th Belize trip but not staying over. Like Ruth, I need to get away from winter weather, but ours is just unrelenting rain and grey skies. Looking forward in particular to the snorkeling, and already worried about the idea of 'rappelling down 300 feet into a sinkhole'!
Sari Oxman Jan 09, 2014 at 07:58 PM

Looking forward to spending a great adventure with everyone!
