See our Small Group programs.
EasyFor people looking to exercise their minds more than their bodies. There’s minimal walking and not too many stairs.
ModerateThese programs get you on your feet and include activities such as walking up to a mile in a day through a city and standing in a museum for a few hours.
ActiveFor people who enjoy walking as much as two miles a day, perhaps to explore historic neighborhoods or a nature trail.
Moderately ChallengingFor hardy explorers who enjoy a good physical challenge, spending most of their days on the go.
ChallengingGet ready to keep up with our highest-energy group. These demanding — and rewarding — programs are for seasoned outdoor enthusiasts.

We would be interested in finding out who else is going on the July trip on the Mekong Delta trip. There are three of us together, two former peace Corps Volunteers(Nigeria) and one who traveled extensively working with relief and aid projects throughout other areas of Asia. We all live in Pasadena, California.

Hi Susan,
Allan Wicker Jul 01, 2014 at 01:55 PM

My wife, Ding, and I are on the July trip. We're almost neighbors, since we live in Claremont, CA.
Allan Wicker Jul 01, 2014 at 01:56 PM

(I see that hitting return results in a new post). Ding is ka

I'm having difficulty with this, so I'll try to send you an e-mail via the RS link.

My husband, Howard Weisman- he did not change his name when we were married- live in Pleasant Hill,Ca and we are leaving tomorrow for this program. I am retired attorney and solar business owner and Howard is a psychiatrist- still practicing. We love adventure and am looking forward to meeting new friends.

Hi Deborah,
Susan Nix Jul 12, 2014 at 02:22 AM

We look forward to meeting you both! This is going to be a fascinating trip with, it sounds like, a group of energetic travelers. See you in Siem Reap.

This question is addressed to anyone who has already taken the Mekong Delta trip ... My wife and I are planning to take along our Nook E-books on our trip. Did you use converters to recharge your elecrtonics? If so, did use the same converters in Vietnam (including on the boat) and in Cambodia?

I'm traveling solo on the September 19 program. At the end, I'm considering flying to Luang Prabang and then on to Chiangmai to board a southbound train. Fly back to the states from Kuala Lampur or Singapore. Looking for the security of fellow travelers. Anyone interested?

Barb Milligan May 21, 2014 at 06:58 PM

I am going on the 9/4 trip and still looking for someone to share a room with. I know that Ginger responded but I could not find her post. So Ginger are you paying the supplement or do you want to share a room?
Saralea Altman May 22, 2014 at 06:44 PM

I am number 1 on the wait list. Will need a roommate.
Barb Milligan May 22, 2014 at 09:53 PM

Are you going 9/4 -9/18?
Saralea Altman May 22, 2014 at 10:31 PM

yes, please contact me at my e-mail address

Ginger Braski May 27, 2014 at 03:11 PM

Hi. I signed up for the trip and will be sharing a room.
Saralea Altman May 27, 2014 at 03:21 PM

Who are you sharing with? I think Barb and I are trying to make an arrangement.
Ginger Braski May 27, 2014 at 04:01 PM

I am signed up to share, but I do not know with whom.

My wife and I are on the trip beginning Sept 19 ... anyone else going at this time?
Geraldine Davis May 17, 2014 at 01:10 PM

Yes, Linda Smith and I are going on September 19...No relationship to you I assume. I'm also going on the pre-trip.
Rick Davis May 17, 2014 at 01:15 PM

We are going in Sept. Do we need malaria prophylaxis or just take some insect repellant (Deet) to avoid the mosquitos.
Saralea Altman May 22, 2014 at 06:46 PM

My Infectious Disease Doc recommended the pills when I went to Kenya since I am susceptible to bites. I will take them again for this trip
Deborah Donovan Jul 11, 2014 at 08:53 PM

Because of the type of treatment resistant malaria found in Cambodia- our doctor strongly recommended the pills. We also sprayed our clothes with insect repellant found at REI. We are leaving tomorrow for the July program

A couple of suggested resources not in the Road Scholar list for this trip:

The map, Mekong Delta and Southern Vietnam by International Travel Maps and available for less than $5 from Amazon, covers the Mekong River from Phnom Penh to Ho Chi Minh City in much greater detail than the Nelles map recommended by RS.
A book, Backtracking in Brown Water: Retracing Life on Mekong Delta River Patrols, by Rolland E. Kidder gives a readable first hand account of patrolling Mekong waterways during the Viet Nam war as well as the author's return to the country 40 years later. The author is a former seminarian who went to war. Less than $4 on kindle, about $19 paperback from Amazon.

My wife and I are going to Vietnam in September. I was led to believe no shots are required? Is this incorrect information? If so, when and where are shot cards required?
Louetta Schwab May 13, 2014 at 05:47 PM

No shots are required. Our doctor recommended our Hep A & B be current, they were. He gave us an rx each for cipro, we didn't need it. We did take the "off" pads in our luggage, used only 2 or 3 each. Weather and insects were no problem. Be sure to find the French ice cream parlor in Saigon, HCMC, they serve unbelieveable works of art. I am so envious. I would take this trip again in an instant.
Geraldine Davis May 17, 2014 at 01:10 PM

My MD recommented I get the thyoid booster
