ActiveFor people who enjoy walking as much as two miles a day, perhaps to explore historic neighborhoods or a nature trail.
Moderately ChallengingFor hardy explorers who enjoy a good physical challenge, spending most of their days on the go.
ChallengingGet ready to keep up with our highest-energy group. These demanding — and rewarding — programs are for seasoned outdoor enthusiasts.

To the Glenn Johnston's who are leaving in just a couple of days, hope you have a wonderful trip! Will look forward to hearing about your experiences when you get back.

Would anyone be willing to post some of their photos from their trip? Thank you.

Just finalized plans for July 21 trip (hi Gwem) flying out of Boston. Is anyone else going through Amsterdam? I'll be there from 6am until 10am before boarding a 10:05 to Kilimanjaro. Also thinking about the wonderful (but somewhat overwhelming) reading list. Does anyone going on the July trip want to coordinate a divide-and-conquer strategy, divvying up the books to read and share/discuss? Would love to hear from others...Dawn Huebner.

Hi Dawn. Yes, I will be on your same flight to Kilimanjaro. I will give you my email address if you would like to communicate more that way. Great idea regarding the books. My email address is gaanderson17@gmail.com. My name is Gwen (there is a mistake on the posting) I am getting so excited!
Dawn Huebner May 23, 2014 at 02:21 PM

I wondered if there was a typo on your name, but didn't want to make assumptions. I will contact you at your email address to talk about flights, books, etc., but welcome fellow travels who check this site to join in at any time. Dawn

re: luggage and shots - I took the trip in October last year. Definitely pack light for the safari as everything for everyone (drivers, lunches, water, luggage) has to fit in the back of the safari vehicles (your itin doesn't look like you have internal flights, which would be the other reason) - you can have laundry done everywhere you stay. Duffels or roll-aboard soft sides fit will. No one cares how you look so wear the same comfortable stuff but pack layers - early morning can be chilly any time of the year at altitude in Ngorongoro, and evenings you will likely want a sweater / jacket. I used to travel extensively all over Africa for work and the ONLY place I ever got asked for proof of yellow fever was Tanzania - and you don't want to get a shot at the airport IMHO. Immunizations for international travel are usually available from a travel clinic in a hospital / large clinic with infectious disease specialists, I've never found Walgreens to give YF or typhoid but they may have changed. Have a great trip

Hi Margaret,

The info packet discusses using soft-sided luggage (duffels) for our travel inside Tanzania with an option to leave a hard-sided suitcase at the hotel for the duration and then pick it up before we leave the country. I asked about the internal flight that is listed in the paperwork, but never appears in our day-to-day itinerary since internal flights have tight weight restrictions. The answer--we won't be taking any internal flights--we'll be following the day-to-day itinerary. Hope that helps.
