ellen taylor Jan 30, 2016 at 02:59 PM

ellen taylor Jan 30, 2016 at 03:02 PM

Opps, Joanne, you are on the later trip. we are on the Feb 19th trip
Barbara Jacobs Feb 01, 2016 at 12:44 PM

I believe they said 18 travelers when I signed up. I can't believe in all my Egyptian reading I never came across Bob Brier so thanks for the link. I'm reading his 'Daily Life of the Ancient Egyptians'. See you soon.

We just received the final program details for the Feb 19 Egypt trip. We must fly into Cairo on the 19th so will be a t hotel when other arrive on 20th. We are flying Turkish airline in order to spend 3 days in Istanbul before we embark on another RS program to Israel and Jordan starting March 6. I noticed in the flights being met on Feb 20 there is another TK 690 flight from Istanbul. Is there someone in our group who is also going to Istanbul before or after the Egypt trip?

We are enjoying learning all we can before the trip. Not long now!

My travel partner & I are going on the Feb. 19, 2016 trip. Anyone signed up for that date?
ellen taylor Jan 19, 2016 at 05:36 PM

My husband and I are going on the Feb 19 trip. I wanted toshare some of the reading prep I have done. For me the background prep for a trip is as much fun as the trip itself. We bought a great courses series on Egypt some year ago when we thought we would go on a more inclusive of the ancient world trip... but it was canceled and has never reappeared. The lecturer is Bill Bryer, Egyptologist par excellance. I got 4-5 of his books in m library and loved them. I also got a lot of Egypt art and history books from my library. We have been enamored of Egypt for the last 50 years (we are "young" 70+ year olds). We are doing a back to back trip to Israel/ zJordan with 4 days in between to do Istanbul on our own. SO we are studying the whole middle east and all of our friends are saying .. TOO DANGEROUS! Don't go. But this is our chance and it is probably safer than going to your workplace or a movie or the MALL. would love to hear from fellow travelers. Ellen Taylor ellenktaylor@gmail.comy

Arthur Riihimaki Feb 05, 2016 at 12:48 PM

My wife Barbara and I are going on Feb 19. See you there.
Barbara Jacobs Feb 05, 2016 at 12:55 PM

Look forward to meeting you. It wouldn't be 'normal' if there weren't at least 2 Barbaras.
Susan Buckingham Feb 07, 2016 at 10:58 AM

Hi, I'm Susan Buckingham going on the Feb. 19 trip. Looking forward to it! I usually travel independently, but I'm trying a group for the first time. I have no idea how many are in the group.
ellen taylor Feb 07, 2016 at 11:47 AM

Hi Susan, Barbara Jacobs said in this discussion thread that she heard that there would be 18 people. We too travel independently to most places, but there are some places like Egypt and Israel and Jordan (3 days after our Egypt trip as long as we are there!) where I prefer someone else doing the details. I imagine you will find the people quite compatible. We have on the previous 4 organized trips we have taken. See you soon.
Susan Buckingham Feb 07, 2016 at 12:39 PM

Thanks, Ellen, it's nice to know the group is not large. Looking forward to meeting you and the others.
Barbara Jacobs Feb 07, 2016 at 12:42 PM

Hi all - closer and closer. There's an Egyptian study group here in Denver and the lecture on the 16th is 'Uppity Women and How They Got Ahead in Ancient Egypt' Sounds like fun. Joann and I are going.

Jill Salmi Jan 08, 2016 at 01:04 PM

For those on recent trips in winter, did you encounter mosquitos?

Janet Jan 05, 2016 at 11:05 AM

Thanks for the tips, Karen. Hope you enjoyed the trip

Janet Dec 19, 2015 at 11:00 AM

Hi. Any comments from those who went on the Dec. Trip ? Am going Jan 21st
Karen Morrow Jan 04, 2016 at 12:21 PM

Watch the weather and pack layers. Be prepared to do alot of stairs. I had to skip several days as not just stairs to sights but also repeatedly on and off the bus on the days in Cairo and Alexandria. I hope Ghada is your tour guide . She had lunch brought to me at the end of the day in Cairo and Alexandria that I stayed in the hotel.
Karen Morrow Jan 04, 2016 at 12:24 PM

Take American one dollar bills and exchange at your hotel for 1 Egyptian coins as those will be needed for bathrooms. Watch the exchange rate. Be careful not to get too much Egyptian money as it decreased in value during the 15 days Jack and I were in Egypt while we were there
Karen Morrow Jan 04, 2016 at 12:26 PM

Take lots of hand santizer and snacks you like. I took cheese crackers and granola bars to help with the 4am hungry feeling when it was time to eat in the USA.
Susan Buckingham Feb 07, 2016 at 11:30 AM

Thanks, Karen, I'm going Feb. 19, and this is some great advice. I had not read about the bathrooms.

Ervin Coonrod Dec 08, 2015 at 07:42 PM

Can anyone tell me if there is a lower weight limit for bags on the in-country flight from Cairo to Luxor?

Mary Hudson Dec 05, 2015 at 09:20 AM

Hello Dec 4th people! Would you please write up notes after your trip? We signed up for next September. Hoping for an awesome trip.
