ModerateThese programs get you on your feet and include activities such as walking up to a mile in a day through a city and standing in a museum for a few hours.
ActiveFor people who enjoy walking as much as two miles a day, perhaps to explore historic neighborhoods or a nature trail.
Moderately ChallengingFor hardy explorers who enjoy a good physical challenge, spending most of their days on the go.
ChallengingGet ready to keep up with our highest-energy group. These demanding — and rewarding — programs are for seasoned outdoor enthusiasts.

Am eagerly looking forward to visiting Sicily with Road Scholar 9/29-10/15/2014. I am departing JFK, 9/29, on Alitalia. Would like to chat beforehand with others on the same trip and departing at the same time.

Ralph Kline Oct 19, 2013 at 11:48 PM

Jeanne, Just told Ralph that you have 34 minutes to make the 5:45 flight. Do you know what terminal you're flying into? We don't know JFK well, but we know that at Newark, you would never make an international flight if you arrive at a different terminal. The security lines can be a zoo at a new terminal unless you have the TSAprecheck/Global access pass? And even if you do, it might take that long to get to Terminal 1, where our flight is leaving from. Good luck - maybe you'll arrive early?
Jeanne Frank Oct 20, 2013 at 10:15 AM

I don't know our arrival terminal. I talked to both Delta and RS and they said that the airline would be responsible for making alternate arrangements if we miss the flight. What a way to start ut a trip!

Ralph Kline Oct 19, 2013 at 11:19 PM

The doc letter never arrived and oh well, we didn't think to tell them to find someone in the large practice who speaks/can write Italian. :-)
I checked on Alitalia's baggage rules etc. There was only one post about whether they really observe their own rules. The one answer was that they seemed more concerned with how much bags weigh. Hard enough with the packing to have to worry about the size and shape of carry-ons. Wise to carry it on in the case. Don't know what Ralph is planning on doing with it.

Ralph Kline Oct 19, 2013 at 11:16 PM

Oh my - good luck! We leave from Terminal 1 (we're on the same flight). Hope you're coming into the same terminal.

Ralph Kline Oct 18, 2013 at 10:12 PM

Ralph's dehumidifier is not detachable. In the U.S., it's not counted against you as a carry-on. It's like the laptop for Alitalia. - As to the doc's letter, apparently they won't care if you don't use it on board, which you probably cannot as there wouldn't be any power. We are going over in business, but I don't know if they have outlets in that class of service. Sigh. Will you be at JFK on Monday?
Jeanne Frank Oct 19, 2013 at 03:22 PM

I'm just going to pack the cpap in the case and use the case as a carryon. We are scheduled for the 5:45 flight out of JFK but out Minneapolis connection to NY is pretty tight - 34 minutes! That's one of the "perks" of living in Montana!

Oh, another thing, I didn't plan on using it on the plane - a little wine should help me tough it out!

Ralph Kline Oct 18, 2013 at 10:01 PM

Jeanne, How frustrating! I thought I'd turn a response over to Ralph, but your thoughts/concerns etc. don't appear here. R.S. is not up to speed with this discussion board. Ralph has called his doc and the office put it in the mail! Do we believe that? No. Won't arrive before we leave as the mail on Monday is being held. Yours is much smaller/lighter than Ralph's. I've printed out your email and will give it to Ralph. Ralph has traveled with it a lot. We were in Le Marche last September etc., etc. No other airline has given us such aggravation. Even thinking of driving to EWR with our carryon to ask about it as again, we've traveled with lots of airlines and never have had such aggravation as with Alitalia's requirements.

Ralph Kline Oct 18, 2013 at 05:32 PM

Anybody know if TSA approved locks will be o.k. for the transit to Italy and then back again?

Ralph Kline Oct 18, 2013 at 11:06 AM

Our current agitation with Alitalia is that none of our "carry-on" pieces of luggage and you have to measure the wheels and handles are small enough for the dimensions they post on their website. - Is this a way to enhance their bottom line with an extra checked bag charge? - At this point, we may be bringing on a book bag and knapsack (CPAP in one of them) only. Unbelievable!
