Is anyone on the September 9 trip considering staying a few extra days afterwards? It seems such a shame not to spend a bit more time in the Tuscany/Florence area :-)

Gail Pike Jun 07, 2014 at 03:55 PM

Hello, signed up for the Sept 21-Oct 4 program, has anyone read/bought the three suggested readings?
Ginger Fout Jun 07, 2014 at 04:42 PM

Hi, Gail. The recommended books that I got the most out of before our trip last month were: Brunelleschi's Dome by Ross King, Michelangelo, The Pope's Ceiling by Ross King, and The House of Medici by Christopher Hibbert.. I also bought but have yet to finish reading them, The City of Florence by R. W. B. Lewis and The World of Vence by Jan Morris. It go to be way too much information. By the way. I suggest buying these books from Amazon, USED. They were much cheaper than the place suggested by Road Scholar. (Sorry, RS.) Have a great trip. We certainly did.

Carol Schumacher May 07, 2014 at 02:20 PM

My partner/spouse Virginia and I are signed up for the Sept 9, 2014 trip. We're flying out of Minneapolis. We can't wait to meet folks and see Rome, Florence and Venice. Carol Schumacher
Linda Chapman May 31, 2014 at 03:03 PM

Hi Carol, I'm also on the September 9th tour - flying out of Seattle. Looking forward to meeting all our new traveling buddies alsoM
Susan Eissinger Jun 21, 2014 at 05:51 PM

Hi, Carol, Linda and Virginia. I am going to join you on the September 9 trip. I live in Gilbert, AZ, which is part of the Phoenix metropolitan area...
Linda Chapman Jun 21, 2014 at 11:34 PM

Are you a solo traveler, Susan, or do you have a travelling partner, if I may ask?
Susan Eissinger Jun 22, 2014 at 09:34 AM

I am a solo. I went on a Road Scholar trip last year (Normandy) and there were five of us traveling solo. We had such a great time. I am hoping there are some others on this trip, as well. :)

My husband and I are signed up for the June4-17 trip and would love to hear from Larry Arends when he and his wife, Sally, return. By the way, we are former residents of Wilmette, Il. who retired to Austin, Texas last year.

Larry Arends Apr 17, 2014 at 04:10 PM

We are looking forward to the May 11 ~ May 24 "Best of Italy" tour. We leave Chicago on the evening of May 10, and will arrive in Rome (Via London) on May 11 at 4PM. Will see eveyone in Rome.....Larry and Sally Arends Buffalo Grove, IL
Cindy Trabin Apr 29, 2014 at 01:46 PM

Hi Larry, my husband (Jack) and I are also on Best of Italy for May 11-24. We arrive Rome on May 12, 8:30a. I know we'll be tired but really excited.

Vicki Lyden Apr 13, 2014 at 08:22 AM

To help prepare for Rome, Florence, and Venice, the following link is an informative 57 minute talk by Gene Openshaw titled: "Michelango's Italy." He is a co-author with Rick Steves: Europe 101. Just ignore the Rick Steves' sales push and enjoy the biographical info plus wonderful pictures of Michelangelo's art and his origins. Even Venice is included since MIchelangelo vacationed there.

I am part of the May 20th tour.
Ginger Fout Apr 13, 2014 at 09:07 AM

Thanks so much for the info, Vicki.

Cindy Trabin Apr 08, 2014 at 06:52 PM

Can we meet up at JFK? Shame not to if we're on the same flight. Never did this before.
Margaret Jacobson Apr 29, 2014 at 02:55 PM

Would love to. We arrive JFK at 3:20 on Delta 2258. We will look for you at the boarding area.
