Anyone from the Chicago area attending the Oct. trip?

You will love this trip..I know I did. However if you are travelling alone on that non-stop to Beijing AA flight that gets in at midnight, be careful to follow the directions for cab carefully. I didn't and ended up in a "black market" vehicle. When I figured out that I was not in a taxi-cab -- no meter, no taxi sign -- I was pretty spooked. I ended up at my hotel but it was a 45 minute white knuckle trip. nuckle trip

Thanks for the info. RS arranged my travel, so they should have transportation from the airport to the hotel, just like they did in Sydney Australia. I was supposed to go in Sept,, and am bummed that they cancelled Sept. I'll be missing 2 grandkids birthdays.
Susan Cole Jun 17, 2014 at 01:25 PM

You are wise to use travel arranged by RS...you will be well cared for. I didn't because I had AA miles enough for a first class ticket to Beijing with business back from Shanghai. (after my miles, my husband's miles and some purchased miles -- a once in a lifetime opportunity) Though I've been back from China for over a year I continue to read both fiction and non-fiction books about the country. I have particularly enjoyed Peter Hessler's three books on his experiences in China, Rivertown, Oracle Bones and Country Driving. You may find the weather more pleasant in October anyway...Have a great trip. Cheers, Susan Cole

Below is a wonderful website with good info on the forbidden city. Also has some great professional videos on other sites in China. It should be helpful to prepare you to get the most out of your trip. http://www.kinabaloo.com/forbidden_city.html
