I am looking forward to the April trip. I have been on a couple of road scholar trips but this will be my first as a single. I appreciate the currency information. It was very helpful.

Karen Breckan Mar 24, 2014 at 05:43 PM

I took this trip last September also. It was wonderful. I read somewhere that the EU requires credit cards to be chipped. Mine was and I had no problem using it. I took both credit cards and cash. It is a good idea to buy some euros before you go. I hope you enjoy the trip as much as I did.

I'm getting ready for the April trip. I could use some advice about how to bring money. Does my credit card need a pin and chip? Do I bring cash? Debit card? I've read so much about this issue that now I'm confused.
Molly DeMatteo Mar 11, 2014 at 07:36 PM

I was on that trip last September-it exceeded all my expectations!!!! I had your same worries-- my credit card worked fine-only needs a pin if you withdraw cash. My debit card worked fine also, of course with the pin. Be sure to let your bank/credit union know ahead that you will be out of the country so they don't freeze you out! There were ample ATM machines to get cash in the local currency. Road Scholar guides were very helpful in pointing out where the machines are located. Enjoy your trip!!!

Thank you so much! I appreciate the reassurance.

Alice Soininen Feb 28, 2014 at 11:40 AM

My husband, Tom, and I just signed up for this trip (September). We live in northern Vermont (NEK) and are looking forward to hearing from others who will be traveling with us. We will leave from Boston.
Helen Disenhaus Mar 03, 2014 at 09:39 AM

Alice and Tom, What a wonderful coincidence! My husband Brian and I are going too and look forward to seeing you again. I've sent you a separate message.

Diane Margolis Jan 03, 2014 at 05:52 PM

I will be arriving in Istanbul a day early (April 12) . Anyone else arriving early?

Bonnie Rogers Oct 21, 2013 at 12:30 PM

I just signed up for the Sept. trip and will be flying out of Detroit. So good to know other singles are signing up. I'm also glad to know about the yoga!

Bonnie Rogers Oct 04, 2013 at 04:51 PM

The price points for singles varies considerably based on room category on the ship. Any recommendations from former single travelers on this cruise would be much appreciated. I usually prefer an outside state room with a balcony but wonder if it is worth the extra money as a single traveler, especially since each day has a port of call.
Pauline S Oct 04, 2013 at 05:26 PM

Bonnie, you echo my thoughts. Cabins are mainly for sleeping as I find I sit outside on a chaise lounge reading on any down time, this was even when I was with my late husband.

Hi Pauline, I am just back from hiking in the preAlps of the Italian Lake District as a single. I was also on the Voyage to Antiquities trip that Lynn et al were on last spring. Plenty of fun, interesting, single women to do things with. RS is an ideal way for single females to travel!! p.s. I had an interior cabin on the cruise and liked it a lot!

Pauline S Oct 03, 2013 at 06:00 PM

Anyone from Canada signed up for the April cruise? Any info on solo travel?
Lynn McNaughton Oct 04, 2013 at 08:44 AM

Pauline, I traveled as a solo to Greece/Turkey last spring and had the same question. I found many solo female travelers who were happy to have me join them. I think that if a tour has no single supplement, there will be female solos. Have no fears.
Pauline S Oct 04, 2013 at 03:27 PM

Thanks for the email Lynn. This tour has a discount on single supplement so hopefully that will attract others.
Judith Shannon Oct 04, 2013 at 04:36 PM

Hi, Pauline - I'm from PA and just signed on as a single! I've enjoyed other RoadScholar travel as a single and find fellow travelers always friendly and open to "joining up" for meals or special outings.
Judith Shannon Oct 04, 2013 at 04:37 PM

Forgot to add, I signed up for the April cruise, too.
Pauline S Oct 04, 2013 at 04:46 PM

Judith, thanks so much for the reassuring email. I haven't signed up yet but I'm nearly there.

I am a single from Kansas City and have also signed up for the April trip. I travel alone all the time. I just returned from 26 days in China by train.. I reserved an outside room on the Greece trip so I can relax in my room and not miss anything.
