I did the independent Prague program in October, 2013, and the Independent Barcelona program in April, 2014. I was travelling on my own both times and I had absolutely wonderful experiences. I have been raving about Road Scholar to friends and acquaintances since coming home. On both instances, I was the only Canadian in a group of Americans and I could not have been made more welcome. I am convinced that Road Scholars are friendly, intelligent people who love to travel, to learn stuff and to have a good time. Both my trips were well-organized and very informative. The accommodation for a single traveller was reasonably priced, comfortable and safe. I hope to have many more Road Scholar experiences in the future.

I did the Independent Prague program (and 3 days after the program on my own) this past spring as a new widow (athough I've traveled solo several times before). It was wonderful! All of the people in our group -- both single and couples -- were friendly and sociable. I did some evening activities -- concerts and such -- with another solo woman, and the jazz boat with a couple and a solo male. Our group leader made it easy for people to get together by, for example, announcing that so-and-so would be going to a particular place and would enjoy a companion(s) -- if you wanted this; otherwise one could just do things on one's own. Very easy to get around the city, and I always felt safe walking around. Roberta, you should not hesitate to try this program.

I was traveling alone too. I had been in Istanbul with another group and arrived in Prague 4 days early. My travel agent arranged a hotel in the main part of town for those days. I roamed on my own, shopping but taking it easy too. The Prague Independent program was very good. I went in Nov. 2013 and the cost including a single room at no extra charge was very reasonable.(not counting the cost of flying) Prague is a great city and very walkable. There are many things, particularly musical, at night and most other participants went to some of these, The city seemed very safe in the main downtown area and it was easy to get from the hotel to the downtown by walking or tram. I don't think you would have any problem as long as you have traveled before and feel comfortable doing that by your self.

I participated in Independent Prague last September as a single new widow and found it to be a wonderful experience. Part of my motivation for going was to test the waters and figure how to feel comfortable traveling alone. I found it to be the perfect mix of time with other people and time alone. Lots of fraternity over breakfast and during the organized part of the trip, but also lots of opportunity to be social during off times if I chose to. I’m very happy and comfortable roaming around on my own, but forced myself to take the opportunity to meet others for the opera and dinner, or to roam with them for the day (and I’m glad I did). I found the perfect balance and Prague felt very safe to me. I had no issues going out for an early morning stroll or walking back from events at night.

Hello fellow Prague travelers. I am getting ready for the Prague trip September 13-21. This is my first RS trip but I have been to Europe many times connected with my professional responsibilities (but never to Prague). I would be interested in a side trip to Terezin --especially after reading Madeline Albright's Prague Winter. Anyone else want to do that during our free time?
Nina Kirkpatrick Aug 24, 2014 at 07:32 PM

I was on the independent Prague program last Nov. I was excellent. I definitely recommend that you go to Terezin. In our group, there were enough people who wanted to go that our tour guide for the first two days took us on a bus. It was not that expensive and the hotel prepared box lunches for us. I do think that this was and important part of our trip.
Barbara Swec Aug 25, 2014 at 10:33 AM

My husband, Len, and I would be interested in joining you, Virginia, for a trip to Terezin. This is our first RS trip too, and we're quite excited.
Virginia Coombs Aug 25, 2014 at 11:19 AM

I'll collect the list and we'll check in in Prague
Bernice Speiser Aug 31, 2014 at 01:55 PM

Thanks, I'm interested too!

hello Czech travelers.
My wife Cory and I are getting jazzed for the June Prague adventure.
We live near Boston...
This is our first time with Road Scholar, though we had 3 excellent trips with Overseas Adventure Travel.
Cory is a nurse practitioner; I teach writing at a small college and an adult education program.
We are getting older, ouch, but don't want to retire--from work, people, or challenge.
We are eager to meet each of you, and explore together.
Don

Hi - anybody else signed up for the June 14 tour? Would love to start sharing.

Judith Hayes Apr 03, 2014 at 05:23 PM

Hoping that the Lufthansa strike doesn't affect any of us.
