I didn't notice a smell of smoke in my hotel rooms.

Nicki Hamilton Feb 12, 2016 at 01:23 PM

You can rent a room safe. What I do is I have a light cotton case that hangs around my neck under my clothes and I wear my passport and my money.
Barbara R Carter Feb 12, 2016 at 01:28 PM

I locked things in my suitcase, as did our American guide.

Carolyn Hayek Feb 12, 2016 at 12:21 PM

It looks like we will each be carrying hundreds of dollars of cash. What's the best way to keep it secure? Are there in-room safes? Is there much street crime?

I wearva neck pouch when on the road with my passport, credit card, and cash. no need to worry about street crime at all, virtually non-issue and you are totally safe physically, unlike in much of US. yes, there are roomsafes available. registet at the front desk. at Nacional thry come up and set it up, at Jaguain ".

to continue...at the Jagua in Cienfuegos we registered, paid a fee and that was it. upon checkout they requested the reciept we had been given for the fee and the box is all.
Barbara R Carter Feb 12, 2016 at 01:05 PM

There is no street crime, especially toward Americans!! Cubans are thrilled we are coming there and look out for us.
LaVance Davis Feb 12, 2016 at 01:45 PM

Miramar in Havana had room safes. No,charge to use the I bOught a small piece of original art at a market for 5CUC.

Ilene Yoffe Feb 12, 2016 at 12:15 PM

I am wondering if the rooms had an odor of smoke. I am staying at the Nacional and the Jaguar in Cienfuegos. I am going on May 17-25 to Havana and then Cienfuegos. Anyone else going on this trip?
Barbara Rice Feb 12, 2016 at 12:19 PM

Stayed at both in July 2015. No hint of smoke in our rooms. And, I would have noticed if there was.

Janet smith Feb 11, 2016 at 09:41 AM

All expenses on your part are cash only. No credit cards. Period. Exchange dollars in hotels for CUCS -- currency authorized for US citizens.
T-shirts would be quite welcome. Most anything we take for granted is either in short suppky or too costly for the average Cuban. Refer to earlier posts for all sorts of ideas. I took a wide variety of things which the guide collected for appropriate distribution.

Blossom Hoag Feb 11, 2016 at 08:37 AM

How widely are credit cards accepted?

Are T shirts good to give away?
Anyone going May 31 - June 8?
LaVance Davis Feb 11, 2016 at 09:07 AM

In October credit cards were not accepted. I was there on the weekend in Havana trip and we gave all our gifts to our guide to distribute. No opportunities on the weekend to give gifts individually.

It looks like we are in different groups in Cuba. My tour starts March 2 in Cienfuegos. In Miami on March 1 I'm taking the 12-4 city bus tour.

Marvel Haynes Feb 10, 2016 at 05:30 PM

I am on the February 23rd trip and I would like to go on the "All About Miami Tour" that is in our information packet. No one else has signed up and he wont do a tour for less that 4 people. Is anyone else considering it?
Roslyn Lang Feb 10, 2016 at 05:47 PM

Unfortunately, I didn't know about the tour before I bought my ticket to Miami, so am arriving too late to join it.
Ronda Stevens Feb 10, 2016 at 05:56 PM

We are spending about a week in the area first, so will be doing some tours prior to that day. I tried to book with that company for tours before he 23rd but he logistics didn't work out for us. I hope you get to do it. We didn't want to pack it in on the same day as our gathering.
Barbara R Carter Feb 10, 2016 at 07:57 PM

The concierge desk at the hotel helped us with a tour that takes fewer than 4 people. Done by a Cuban man who knows the area and does a great tour. He is cheaper too.
Marvel Haynes Feb 11, 2016 at 11:53 AM

Thank you. I will try that.
