Just returned (Jan. 31) from "Exploring San Miguel de Allende". Some suggestions:
1. We arrived in Mexico City 2 days early. Not enough time. If you stay there on your own, we met an English speaking guide & driver, Alejandro, who toured us around the city. His phone nos. are: 55 1931 8214 (cell) or 5715 2433 (home). Very reasonable and reliable. Tell him Julio & Daria (Jules & Daryl) recommend him. He took us to Cayoacan district, Spanish colonial district, where Casa Azul is located (Frida Kahlo museum), plus many other sites. In Mexico City, skip Floating Gardens at Xoxomilco (sp?), not worth the trip. Traffic in M. City is choking.
2. At all attractions, there are frequently discounts for those above 60 (mayores de sesenta anos). Try it. Nothing to lose.
3. In San Miguel, it was very cool in mornings and evenings. Days were pleasant, but sometimes a bit cool although sun is strong.
4. Very close to our hotel (La Aldea) is the Rosewood Hotel. Go to the Rosewood rooftop Bar before sunset for a spectacular view, particularly if it's cloudless. Don't miss it!
5. We missed the Masque Museum. Was only open at 10:30 am for tours. Were told it was very unique. Look it up. Hours may have changed.
6.Went to small Toy Museum, near San Francisco church. Charming. About 30 minutes.
7. We took the House & Garden Tour, Sundays at noon. Very unusual and interesting; depends on which houses are chosen. Have to sign up at La Biblioteca in town. But it takes about 2.5 to 3 hours total, touring and driving, and bus travel is not the greatest, but we thought it was worth it.
8. Good restaurants near Aldea are Hecho in Mexico (1 minute) and La Trattoria (3 minutes). Any other questions? Jules (aka Julio)

Hi Rebecca, Did you see my post on February 4th? Jules

Rebecca Welty Jan 19, 2016 at 10:10 AM

San Miguel was a beautiful city. We spend entirely too much time listening to lectures and not seeing the city. We could not get internet in our room
Sue Jan 19, 2016 at 12:26 PM

Any more suggestions besides the Mask Museum?
Sue Jan 19, 2016 at 12:27 PM

Hi Becky, Looking forward to meeting you. I thought I'd sent you a couple of other replies but they don't seem to have gone through.

Sue Jan 19, 2016 at 12:28 PM

Well, that one went through twice. I guess that makes up for it. You can contact me at naylsu@aol.com if you wish.

I'm going on the Feb. 29, 2016 trip to San Miguel. Anyone out there also signed up for this trip?

Sue
Rebecca Welty Jan 15, 2016 at 04:30 PM

Hi Sue, Becky here. I'm going Feb. 29. Traveling from Atlanta.
Shirley Dimatteo Jan 19, 2016 at 10:03 AM

Do not bother with most of the lectures, you will miss many venues in the city
Rebecca Welty Jan 19, 2016 at 10:09 AM

If RS staff giving lectures, I assume I would have to get to venues on my own. Suggestions for that? Did you have internet in the lobby?
Shirley Dimatteo Jan 19, 2016 at 10:32 AM

The Mask Museum for one, concerts etc noted in the newspaper. Yes internet is in the lobby and in some rooms---very sketchy--and not time
Shirley Dimatteo Jan 19, 2016 at 10:33 AM

In lobby really. I needed it for business purposes and preferred to use it in my room

Any one going on the Nov 2015 trip?
Eileen Wigginton Sep 01, 2015 at 10:17 AM

Yes. This is my second RS trip, the first was Iceland New Year’s Eve this year. Loved it. Eileen Wigginton
Laurie Willard Sep 01, 2015 at 12:05 PM

My 2nd one also. I went to Cuba in 2013. Can't wait to meet you.

Shirley Dimatteo Feb 14, 2015 at 11:17 AM

Anyone else going from the East Coast on this trip?
Shirley Dimatteo Apr 14, 2015 at 09:30 PM

Hi Patricia, There were plenty of people travelling solo--including a group of 11 women who knew eachother from other trips. I personally thought there was too much lecture and not enough time spent venturing. We loved the San Miguel and really did not have much of a chance to explore the other town. The Posad in "San Miguel did not have a good internet system. We had no intertnet in our room, and because we conduct business via internet , it was very difficult. We were sorry the group missed the Mask Museum, which was supposed to be quite interesting.

David Johnson Jan 28, 2015 at 10:08 PM

Wondering how many are signed up for the February 19th program? We are visiting our daughter first who works at the American Embassy in Mexico City and then coming to San Miguel. This is our 6th class and we are very much looking forward to our time in Mexico. Judy & David Johnson Billings, MT
Shirley Dimatteo Jan 31, 2015 at 08:16 PM

Hi David and Judy, We are from Providence, RI. I posted before, but no responses. It would be nice to see who is joining us.

Shirley Dimatteo Jan 08, 2015 at 10:48 PM

Anyone going February 19, 2015 from the Providence, RI area?
