See our Small Group programs.
EasyFor people looking to exercise their minds more than their bodies. There’s minimal walking and not too many stairs.
ModerateThese programs get you on your feet and include activities such as walking up to a mile in a day through a city and standing in a museum for a few hours.
ActiveFor people who enjoy walking as much as two miles a day, perhaps to explore historic neighborhoods or a nature trail.
Moderately ChallengingFor hardy explorers who enjoy a good physical challenge, spending most of their days on the go.

I'm interested in travel to Cuba. Please comment on the accomodations, and how you would rate them.
Jeffrey Levy Sep 06, 2014 at 03:44 PM

The accomodations are fine. But they are the least important part of the experience. The most important part of a Road Scholar trip to Cuba are the cultural and historical aspects and they are superb. You won't spend much time in your room.

Lana. We are looking forward to meeting you and the group and having a great time in a Cuba. Do you have any information about the Jewish community in Havana. I know that the schedule is packed but if possible we would like to visit a synagogue etc.

Pamela Hazard Aug 22, 2014 at 04:51 PM

For those going to Cuba in October, you will have a great time with Lana at the helm!

Lana Mullen Aug 22, 2014 at 04:35 PM

Hola Road Scholars! I will be the Road Scholar Group Leader for the program starting on 10/08/14. I'll be sending out an informational email to all registered participants two weeks before the program, but if you have any questions in the meantime, feel free to post here. I will check the board every week. Looking forward to meeting you soon!

Going to Cuba in Oct which in retrospect is probably not a good time in terms of weather. Anyway can't get a clear idea of how to transfer from dollars to peso's. What suggestions do people have?
Elizabeth Augustine Jun 27, 2014 at 07:16 AM

They'll go over all this at orientation. But briefly, the hotel will change your money for you. I'd advise keeping your cash in your hotel safe and changing small amounts at a time, unless of course you're planning to make a big art purchase. At the airport just before you leave the country, you can change any remaining money back to dollars. Hope this helps.
Frank Feigert Jun 27, 2014 at 07:55 AM

Through your local bank or at a US airport, change a few hundred dollars into Canadian currency amd use that at your hotel or elsewhere. If you havre any left over, it's easily convertible back to US dollars. The exchange rate is so negligible it's not worth worrying about.

In preparation for upcoming trip to Cuba on May 7th I have been doing some historical reading. I found a great non-fiction book called "Havana Nocturne: How the Mob Owned Cuba Then Lost it to the Revolution" by T.J. English. It was fascinating and disturbing at the same time but provided great insight into the history of Cuba from Batista to Castro and the connection with the American Mob and businessmen.
Sherry Edwards Apr 12, 2014 at 02:27 PM

I am going to Cuba May 7th too, see you in Miami. Sherry Edwards.

No habla Espanol. Is that going to be a problem?
Frank Feigert Mar 17, 2014 at 04:40 PM

Not at all. Your local guide will translate as may your trip leader. On those occasions when you are on your own, you will find that some Cubans speak English. That, plus point and pantomime, work very well.
Elizabeth Augustine Mar 18, 2014 at 12:53 PM

It's actually "No hablo Espanol," in case you want to say it to someone! But no, it shouldn't be a problem - as Frank points out, you'll have a guide (actually, an American guide and a Cuban guide) who can provide translation services and the English spoken in Cuba is very good. Have a great trip.

Will Cuba's decision to stop processing American Visas affect the February 19th trip to Cuba? Studying the art of the Cuban people?
Frank Feigert Feb 16, 2014 at 12:28 PM

That's best answered by contacting the RS office, which is probably working over time right now on just this subject. IF you already have your visas, that means that the Cuban government has made the requisite deposit and you have no worries.
Sheila Dunbar Feb 16, 2014 at 01:32 PM

Thank you, Frank, for responding. The RS offices are closed until Tuesday due to the holiday. I hope to be able to hear before beginning my travels on Tuesday afternoon. I have my fingers and toes crossed all goes well. I am very excited about this journey. Gracias.
