going to easter island next week - can anyone tell me if walking sticks are available to rent on the island? I just learned that even collapsible ones are likely to be confiscated in carry on luggage
Richard Reed Feb 17, 2015 at 10:49 AM

Linda, we had no trouble with currency. Dollars are OK. Credit cards are OK. There are ATMs available. There's a very good superstore for souvenirs, sort of a flea market. The program we were on allowed enough time for shopping, no problem.
Richard Reed Feb 17, 2015 at 10:51 AM

Don't know about walking sticks. But I believe the flea market would have something to suit.
Linda Niles Feb 17, 2015 at 10:57 AM

thanks on both counts, richard

I'm in the 2/23-3/4 group, and I have an couple of odd questions. I have no idea how much time will be available to shop for local souvenirs, and that also affects how much I need to bring with me in Chilean Pesos. any suggestions? thanks.
TheHiker Feb 13, 2015 at 01:23 AM

Linda, from my reading, it looks like dollars are used on Rapa Nui, even preferred over Chilean pesos. It also sounds like there is not much as far as souvenirs go....
Linda Niles Feb 13, 2015 at 03:55 PM

thanks

I'm getting ready for the Jan 26th adventure. I've built in 1 night in Miami 1/25 because one never knows about the weather affecting Chicago's airport! Would like to connect with others on this trip. Are you out there?

Jim Jeffers Jan 03, 2015 at 02:28 PM

Hope you guys have safe flights. From where do you fly? I will have flown from Columbia SC, tho I live in a Sun City Community near Bluffton, SC (Hilton Head Island is one of our suburbs).
Linda Niles Jan 03, 2015 at 02:30 PM

I fly from wichita, ks, changing planes in houston. hope you have a safe fight also.

Glad to hear from other participants. It is sure to be a wonderful experience! Am reading several books and viewed the DVD Easter Island: Underworld which concentrates on the caves. Sadly, Will not be arriving early.
Linda Niles Dec 31, 2014 at 02:01 PM

I won't be arriving early either - will arrive about 10:15 the morning we start touring! I'll try to track down the DVD - love the idea of seeing some caves.
Linda Niles Dec 31, 2014 at 09:47 PM

I found the dvd you mentioned on amazon!

Linda Niles Dec 31, 2014 at 01:22 PM

Jim Jeffers Dec 31, 2014 at 12:07 PM

Will arr. SCL on 21 Feb, and stay at Plaza San Francisco. Probably will take a couple local tours. Does 'the hiker' have a name? Anyone else arriving early?
Linda Niles Dec 31, 2014 at 02:05 PM

not arriving early but look forward to meeting you - very excited for this trip

TheHiker Oct 30, 2014 at 05:18 PM

It is a lifelong dream of mine to visit Rapa Nui. Will be on the February 23, 2015 tour. Interested in comments from previous participants or those traveling on this tour.
