Hello. Anyone flying out of San Francisco Feb 13?

Susan Rattray Jan 17, 2016 at 08:25 PM

Riverboat is rustic but adequately comfortable if you are on the Thom Tiou. Cabins designed for bed use only,no place for sitting.AC works well.Showers are fine but bathroom lighting is minimal.Comfy top deck outdoor lounge. Food is spectacular & meal seating-family style. Enjoy
Fraser Croucher Jan 18, 2016 at 08:54 AM

Thank you Susan. That's helpful.

Fraser Croucher Jan 17, 2016 at 07:37 PM

Does anyone know what the river boat is like? Comfortable? Rustic?
Ken Pyburn Jan 18, 2016 at 01:58 PM

Comfortable but I would guess pretty crowded fro two, I was a single and used the second bed for most of m stuff, very little storage. Despite all of that I loved this boat, good A/C, wonderful attentive staff, great food and they accommodated some "special" diets. Compared to larger cruise ships I would call it comfy rustic.
Fraser Croucher Jan 18, 2016 at 06:53 PM

Thank you Ken...I found a link that gave me some photos of the boat. Common areas Iook very nice, rooms look maybe a bit tight but manageable.

Is Anyone going from San Francisco on Jan. 18 to Hong Kong on Cathay Pacific?

ArtemisTravels Dec 19, 2015 at 12:10 PM

Anyone on the Singapore Air Jan 11 12:05am from San Francisco, arriving 5:25pm in Siam Reap?
Nancy Brown Dec 20, 2015 at 01:03 PM

I am arriving a couple days earlier -- I need a little more time to recover from the flight and adjust to a 12 time zone difference!!
ArtemisTravels Dec 20, 2015 at 03:54 PM

Wish I could do the same, but I booked a little late and since Road Scholar included the airfare with my trip, this is what they booked me on. I expect I will be sleepwalking through the first couple of days.

Thanks but so far not one has told me they take cate of the flight, i do not end in either of those cities but in Ho Chi Minh City and there is five days between the end of my program and the beginning of the extension, which doesn't make any sense to me..
Jennifer Spahr Dec 06, 2015 at 09:30 PM

Ho Chi Minh City is the same as Siagon. I must admit that I've never seen the extension begin 5 days after the conclusion of the core trip. I think that you're right that RS needs to advise - perhaps they have the dates wrong on the web site.
jeri moran Dec 07, 2015 at 02:39 PM

i'm not doing the extension with Road Scholar, Ken, because of the 5 day gap. i just made my own plans to go to hanoi since others had recommended going there and Halong Bay.

Can I trouble you one more time. I cannot seem to get out of the roundtrip part to Saigon without a tremendous penalty almost doubling my fare, did you find a way around that or did you go independently from the very beginning and make your own arrangements? I would very much like to see Hanoi but in airfare lone I am looking at an additonal $1200 even using RS as the agent.
jeri moran Dec 10, 2015 at 03:29 PM

made my own arrangements completely separately from Road Scholar. i'm going home from Hanoi, not returning to Saigon. i don't think you will be able to do this since it seems you have made arrangements with RS to go home from Saigon.
Ken Pyburn Dec 19, 2015 at 06:34 PM

You are so right, thanks for responding, I have been away, I will see you there in a few days now. I have opted tossup the extension to Hanoi all together, just too difficult to do due to prior arrangements and penalties and such.

I took the extension which is called by that name because the Hanoi part may come at the beginning or end of the Siem Reap- Mekong-Saigon leg. Road Scholar takes care of the flight between Hanoi and either Saigon or Siem Reap

I have probably confused you, I sendup in Ho Chi Minh, after the mekong River part, so would need to get yo the north from there. I will wait to hear from RS and see what they might suggest, they are checking with the Program Director for Vietnam and Cambodia.
