A friend and I are considering Dec. 2014 departure and was informed by R.S. that the site of "Balcan?" was not included. I have not been able to find any info about this and wonder if any of past attendees know about it. We are coming from West Coast and also wonder about going day early. Thanks for any feedback.
Terry Lewis Feb 22, 2014 at 08:45 PM

We did this trip this January and it was wonderful. However, I notice R.S. has eliminated the Highlands area completely for upcoming trips including "Volcan". To me the 3 days in the Highlands and Volcan was the very best part of this trip, and only place to see the Replendent Quetzal. No idea why eliminated. Also, a couple on our trip came from the West coast and did come a day early and were glad. We came from Huntsville, AL and could not get a flight into Panama until a 10 PM arrival. Much too late for early starts. I'm not sure I would do the trip now that I've see Volcan and the Highlands area and not being able to go there. Cheaper and less time is not always better to me.

We went on the Birds of Panama program in Feb-Mar of 2013. Good guide, great trip, but program did not provide same bird list to everyone. Best to bring your own list. Also, had trouble getting guide to send us list of participants and contact information after the trip. Best to gather this info on your own during the trip. Good luck and have fun

We leave in two weeks and still have not received our final packet which was supposed to be here 4-5 weeks before departure! Irritating. Anyone else having this problem?
Terry Lewis Feb 02, 2014 at 04:27 PM

Jan, We just returned from the January 19-28 trip, and hope you have received your final packet by now. Not sure what has happened with this trip, but seems like a lot of changes happening with it. Our trip in Panama went well, and we ended up with a different guide than the Road Scholar information said. Fortunately, he was outstanding and a delight. Please tell Ito Santamaria hello from the Lewis' when you get there. Have a safe trip and hope all goes well for you and your group. Terry Lewis

We're signed up for the Feb. 5th trip. Anyone else?
We're from Nebraska.

Who is signed up for the Birds of Panama trip for January 19, 2014? We just signed up and from Huntsville, AL. Looks like a great trip!
Bob Wagner Jan 14, 2014 at 01:36 AM

Hello Terry, my wife Freda and I are going. As usual for us we haven't adequately studied the field guide, but I guess that's why we have a guide. We are from the mountains of Northern California, near the Oregon border.
Terry Lewis Jan 15, 2014 at 04:00 PM

Bob, my husband Herb and I look forward to meeting you and Freda. May you have a safe journey Sunday. We will not arrive in Panama City until 9:57 PM from Atlanta.
Bob Wagner Jan 17, 2014 at 01:56 AM

Hi Terry, since we are coming from the west coast and want to avoid jet lag we will be arriving a day early on Sat. We'll look for you Sun night or Monday morning. Safe travel to you.

My wife and I are interested in knowing who else has signed up for this program, especially if you are from or near Wisconsin
Doug Wigner Mar 13, 2013 at 12:27 PM

I'm going, but am in Richmond, VA.

Doug, Are you single and available? I am looking for a winter trip with single men on it. Been on 18 trips with this group and there are never enough single men to socialize with. Love birds, both need someone to laugh with in the down times. Sal
