Our 10-year-old granddaughter Fiona is going with Grandma Janet and Poppa John (me) on this program starting June 17, 2014. We're flying over a day early, leaving NY on the 16th, flying through Atlanta and arriving Johannesburg on the 17th. Glad to know there will be at least two others on the trip.

My grandson Zachary aged 10 and I are going on the program starting June 17, 2014. Anyone else on this program interested in corresponding.

My granddaughter Celie, age 10, and I, Gramma Kathy, are going on the program starting July 8, 2014. We'd be interested in knowing others who are going.

We go to a travel clinic at our medical school for advice when we travel and for this trip they recommended all shots, drugs suggested by Road Scholar The risk of getting these awful diseases is worth the inconvenience. World traveler.

Carolyn- Our 11 year old grandson got a waiver as his doctor did not want him to have the shot- He also has multiple allergies

Carolyn Bailey May 29, 2013 at 10:53 PM

I found the following on the internet about a Waiver for the YELLOW FEVER. Is anyone using this? Carolyn Bailey
Appendix Waiver Letters from Physicians

A physician's letter stating the contraindication to vaccination has been acceptable to certain governments outside the United States. Ideally, the letter should be written on letterhead stationary and bear the stamp used by health department and official vaccination centers to validate the International Certificate of Vaccination. When planning to use a waiver letter, the traveler should also obtain specific and authoritative advice from the embassy or consulate of the country or countries she or he plans to visit. Waivers of requirements obtained from embassies or consulates should be documented by appropriate letters and retained for presentation with the International Health Certificate.

In the information Packet, under Practical Matters, is says 'Yellow Fever vaccination is required; medical waivers are accepted in lieu... Malaria recommended for Chobe N.P. and Livingstone

Sheila Braun May 26, 2013 at 11:19 PM

Our granddaughter's MD is reluctant to administer yellow fever vaccine. Says she doesn't need it. Is he correct? Also, malaria prophylaxis needed. Thanks
Julie Prafke May 27, 2013 at 12:19 AM

You should check to make sure it is still required for entrance into South Africa. Would be great if you don't need it, but devastating if they didn't let you enter without it.
