Program #11586RJ
13 Days | 12 Nights
ACTIVITY LEVEL: Active
Road Scholar has thousands of educational adventures to choose from. A good way to narrow down our list is to browse our collection of "Most Popular" programs.
See all of our Most Popular programs.
While all of our learning adventures offer extraordinary value, our "Best Value" programs were rated by our participants themselves who thought their dollar went particularly far.
Love to learn in a small-group setting? This collection of programs has at most 10-24 participants.
See our Small Group programs.
EasyFor people looking to exercise their minds more than their bodies. There’s minimal walking and not too many stairs.
ModerateThese programs get you on your feet and include activities such as walking up to a mile in a day through a city and standing in a museum for a few hours.
ActiveFor people who enjoy walking as much as two miles a day, perhaps to explore historic neighborhoods or a nature trail.
Moderately ChallengingFor hardy explorers who enjoy a good physical challenge, spending most of their days on the go.
ChallengingGet ready to keep up with our highest-energy group. These demanding — and rewarding — programs are for seasoned outdoor enthusiasts.

Flying from Atlanta for the 12/2 tour. Anyone else going on this trip?
Naomi Spinrad Nov 23, 2014 at 10:51 PM

I'm on that tour, coming through Miami.
Sandy Cambeilh Nov 24, 2014 at 09:07 PM

I look forward to meeting you, Naomi. Arrive San Jose about 1:00, how about you?
Naomi Spinrad Nov 25, 2014 at 12:19 AM

Not till about 9pm, so we probably won't meet until the next morning.
Sandy Cambeilh Nov 25, 2014 at 12:56 PM

Well, see you then!

Karen Luckring Nov 20, 2014 at 05:16 PM

I got the typhoid(lasts for 2 years) and hepatitis A(2 shots spaced 6 months apart but even one shot gives you probably 80% immunity).

Judith Kelly Nov 20, 2014 at 04:42 PM

I was wondering if anyone has considered getting vaccinations for the Costa Rica trips?
Cassie Witteborg-Wallace Nov 20, 2014 at 04:47 PM

I am getting the typhoid immunization.
Teddy Wright Nov 20, 2014 at 05:09 PM

No need to get vaccinations for this trip.
Cassie Witteborg-Wallace Nov 20, 2014 at 05:11 PM

My physician suggested I follow the CDC guideline that basically states while it's not necessary, it is still suggested. Hence, I am getting it.

Cassie Witteborg-Wallace Nov 12, 2014 at 02:42 PM

I am taking the Jan 10 program, and then the back to back digital photography trip on Jan. 23. Is anyone else taking the digital photog. trip? Also, does anyone know if laundry facilities are available on the trips to Costa Rica?
Rebecca Zimmerman Nov 12, 2014 at 02:57 PM

I went last March. There was laundry services at every resort. For a reasonable price you can pay to have your laundry done for you. I recommend doing this. I tried sink washing a couple of shirts. Unfortunately it was hard to dry the shirts out in the humidity. There were laundry lines at some of the resorts. I did not hang my laundry outside due to the lizards and insects.
Marilee Henneberger Nov 12, 2014 at 03:53 PM

Most of the resorts had machines available, but it was easy and inexpensive to use the laundry services a couple offered. Just get your dirty clothes to them when you first arrive as it will probably take 24 hours to get them done.
Cassie Witteborg-Wallace Nov 12, 2014 at 04:01 PM

Thank you for the responses. From what you both have said, it seems to make sense to plan on having my laundry done...sort of a luxury!
Rebecca Zimmerman Nov 12, 2014 at 05:55 PM

The service is something I came to rely on. I would hand over my dirty laundry when I arrived at a resort. While I spent the day sightseeing they were cleaning my laundry. 24 hours after dropping off the laundry I had very clean and dry clothes.

Leaving Sunday, 11/2, for Costa Rica. Anyone else on that trip?

Signe Kastberg Oct 23, 2014 at 03:20 PM

I just signed up for the Nov 11-23 trip. I am so looking forward to it! Any others on board for that trip? I'm flying out of Fort Myers FL through Houston, arriving mid-day.
Therese Holtz Oct 23, 2014 at 08:27 PM

I will be going through Houston on nov.11 but arriving in SJ early evening. will see you there. Have you traveled with RS before?
Signe Kastberg Oct 24, 2014 at 07:16 AM

This is my first trip with RS, but many years ago I developed and ran an "Elderhostel" program in Juneau, Alaska ... and have always kept Elderhostel in mind for the future. So this is coming full circle for me!
Julie Glenn Oct 25, 2014 at 11:42 AM

Signe, I am traveling from Cincinnati solo and arriving SJ at 11:47 am. This is also my first RSVP trip.
Julie Glenn Oct 25, 2014 at 11:45 AM

RS trip! Not RSVP trip! Traveling through Miami.
Therese Holtz Oct 25, 2014 at 01:14 PM

I am traveling with my long time traveling friend. our husbands don't like to travel so we started traveling together 20 yrs ago. we get into SJ at 7:32 pm. we will see you at the hotel.

Does anyone know how far ahead this trip might sell out (Best of Costa Rica) July 14, 2015)?
Marilee Henneberger Oct 21, 2014 at 02:05 PM

You can call Road Scholar and ask. They can tell you how many have signed up already and perhaps the historic enrollment. But I went in July this year and there were still some availability.

Sandy Cambeilh Oct 18, 2014 at 11:56 AM

Thanks Julie and Connie.
