Thanks again.

Thank you for your update. I viewed the cost of the immunizations and whew! are they expensive. I wasn't going to have them; thought better and now with your post I guess I'll stop driving myself crazy and go without! Thanks! have a great day!

Again, I can only say that I went in April. The restaurants were impeccably clean. I had no vaccinations and no problems

Jessica Cossaboom Jul 27, 2015 at 11:07 AM

Barbara, we are adults and I do not find any smart alecs with us. Just good people sharing their experiences. Have a great day

Barbara Rice Jul 27, 2015 at 10:05 AM

As I said, our trip was wonderful. And our fellow travelers were all lovely. They were great. So glad some of you were not with us - no smart alecs with us. I, too, have travelled, extensively. Will take the advice of physicians and the CDC anytime. Returned from Cuba a few days ago. Loved the trip. Terrific experience. But, there is filth. We went to what are nice restaurants, but there were still flies on our food in many. Bug on my plate in the nicest restaurant by the embassy. Accepted it and went on. Have a great time, Cynthia.

B.R. IT has been 3 months since we returned from a great trip, we didn't get sick or die. We didn't shots as we are seasoned travelers and had got them years ago. You don't drink the water Road Scholar provides plenty bottled. Never saw flies in any restaurant, but then I wasn't looking for them. Rest rooms in restaurant were clean, some beautiful. You may use any restroom in any bar or hotel or restaurant while you are walking. One Cuban said 'it is okay to use,we own it' Remember it is a Communist county and the government owns everything. BNB's and restaurants are different. Love our trip in April, Y You will be warm this time of year. Take a chance and swim in the Bay of PIGS.

OMGoodness kids! Cynthia was just stating her experiences. Not that I have to speak for Cynthia, but please don't attack folks for their opinions and statements! Surely, Cynthia was just trying to be helpful. Now then, I am going to look into vaccines just to err on the safe side. Better safe than sorry. I've also been around the world in China, Russia, just to mention a few Countries; and I never found anything disgusting with the exception of one stop our group made in China where there was just a hole in the ground, no running water nor toliet paper! Tissues to the rescue everyone!!!! Have fun that's the main idea!

Cynthia Arno Jul 27, 2015 at 08:14 AM

Thank you for your comments. I did not intend to stimulate such a dramatic discussion. I will decide for myself about the vaccinations and appreciate your input. Safe travels, all.

Anything you decide will be the right decision for you. :) Really looking forward to meeting you!

Barbara Fredricksen Jul 27, 2015 at 07:41 AM

Dearies, you can't get rabies (or pregnant) from a toilet seat. Okay, so all the toilets don't automatically flush, or even have seats (but I don't sit on seats in the U.S. either) as they do at the Ritz, but there is always some nice lady there to pour a bucket of water into them to make the icky stuff go away. You can get toilet paper from another nice lady at the door for 50 cents. Every roadside restroom I went to outside Havana had running water, but I followed up with hand sanitizer, just as I do at Applebee's in the USA. ALL the restaurants Road Scholar took us to were lovely and clean and no one got sick. Perhaps you would be happier at Disney World or Las Vegas and avoiding travel outside your comfort zone. And do avoid Southern Europe, where many toilets are just a hole in the ground with some foot pads on either side. And I won't even tell you about Africa or India lest you swoon. Cuba is beautiful, the people delightful, especially considering the U.S. 'S 54-year blockade of much needed supplies.

I so agree with Barbara Fredricksen!! Too many Americans think the whole world should meet their standards and thus miss out on some wonderful experiences meeting people from other cultures!! There is so so much to celebrate about Cuba that I do not have time for the negative.
