Anna, where are you flying out of? I am flying from NY.
Anna Osborn Nov 13, 2015 at 08:56 AM

We have been on this tour twice: 2014 and 2015. We and going on the Wellness one this year. You will love this tour and learn so much no matter your skill level. Have fun!
Nancy-jo Funaro Nov 14, 2015 at 11:58 AM

Thank you. I am very excited about going.

Nancy-jo Funaro Nov 12, 2015 at 07:54 PM

I have signed up for the 8th too. I am traveling through Rhode Scholar and I haven't heard when the flights leave. I am assuming it is early on the 8th. When I find out I can let you know.

February 8, 2016 Booked! I am arriving a day early February 7 and staying at the Buena Vista. Anyone else arriving early? If so would you like to meet up and do a day tour somewhere with a guide?

Laura Moran Feb 16, 2015 at 12:48 PM

Does anyone on the Feb 21 trip have a VGA or HDMI adapter to link an IPAD to a projector? I just purchased an IPAD and assume we will have access to a projector to show our selected photos in the evening. This cable looks like the simplest solution for connecting the 2 devices. Thanks
Anna Osborn Feb 16, 2015 at 03:30 PM

We don't. Usually Monica put our pictures on a flash drive or a card reader and usually asked us to choose three of our best. We never showed them all. We don't have an adapter to our IPAD. Getting really excited.
Laura Moran Feb 16, 2015 at 04:53 PM

Hi Anna
Laura Moran Feb 16, 2015 at 04:57 PM

I am getting excited too! I guess I don't need to worry about an adapter. Look forward to meeting you.Leaving the hubby at home for tax season (he is a CPA) while I go off to Costa Rica!
Elizabeth Laverty Feb 16, 2015 at 07:20 PM

Laura; I also took my iPad and left my Mac at home. I brought my SD card connector for the iPad and also a SanDisk iXpand flash drive. The iXpand is $60 which I purchased from Best Buy. It works as both a 32 GB storage device but more importantly for your photo vacation it works to transfer photos from your iPad to Monica's computer. It has both a light nigh connector that fits into your iPad and also a USB connector. I also brought my VGA adapter for my iPad but never used in in Costa Rica.
Elizabeth Laverty Feb 16, 2015 at 07:21 PM

I meant it has a lightning connector and SBU connector. I went on the January 23 - 31 Costa Rica trip. It was fabulous
Elizabeth Laverty Feb 16, 2015 at 07:22 PM

Gosh, I mean lightning connector and USB connectors.
Anna Osborn Feb 16, 2015 at 07:42 PM

sounds good to me, but I am going to let John worry about that....and Monica, I guess. She is wonderful, isn't she?

Stephanie Schoap Feb 03, 2015 at 01:06 AM

Mike and I went last year. For the whole trip, we did not need money as everything is taken care of on the tour. We did bring credit cards and needed to buy some clothes since the airlines lost our bags for three days.* So we did bring cash but not a huge amount. We probably brought $400 cash but we don't remember for sure.
*Please see my text below from Jan. 17.

Marilyn Wisegarver Feb 02, 2015 at 07:57 PM

To those of you who have made this trip before, what advice can you give regarding the need for cash? I have ATM and credit cards, but what would be a reasonable amount of actual cash to bring along? (And, I expect American Dollars are accepted most places.)
Anna Osborn Feb 02, 2015 at 11:31 PM

Yes US dollars are accepted. Make sure they are in good condition; that is a requirement. If you use ATM you get colonas. Credit cards are great. Cash for tips (I know what they say, but tips are needed) and cash for those pesky exit fees are good. We, as a couple take a fair amount; I don't want to post amount, but you will use dollars. We have taken 20s as the highest bill but are considering something higher due to the bulk. Are you on Facebook? I could message you.
Anna Osborn Feb 02, 2015 at 11:41 PM

I sent a friend request. With those beautiful pictures, that has to be you.
Anna Osborn Feb 03, 2015 at 07:59 AM

didn't receive request

Florence Elion Mascott Feb 02, 2015 at 08:37 AM

This is my first Road Scholar trip and the first photo shoot experience and my first trip to Costa Rica. I have very little knowledge of photography. I have a light weight tripod, a Nikon d40x w/telephoto lens. a re macro add on. I am very excited about the photo part.. Worried about the shoe situation. Living in florida, we dress differently. Regardless, looking forward to the trip on 2/9/15.
Elizabeth Laverty Feb 02, 2015 at 09:10 AM

Florence, I just returned from the Jan 23 - 31 photo Costa Rica trip. My suggestion is to bring two pairs of closed toe shoe,. Both should be sturdy walking shoes, leave the dressy sandals at home in Florida.this was also my first Road Schloar, and my first trip to Costa Rica. It was fabulous, learned so much about photography
Florence Elion Mascott Feb 02, 2015 at 05:58 PM

Thank you so much for the info about shoes. I shall look for some sturdy ones tomorrow. I cannot wait for 2/9,
Florence Elion Mascott Feb 03, 2015 at 09:30 AM

I found two comfortable prs of tennis
Carole Massey Feb 03, 2015 at 09:42 AM

Hi Florence! I just returned from my first Road Scholar trip and was with Elizabeth! We had a wonderful time on our trip. My suggestion regarding shoes, one very sturdy waterproof hiking boots. I bought one made by Merrill. It had excellent traction and kept my feet and socks dry. Not sexy looking but very functional!!! You'll enjoy your trip and Monica is so fantastic.
Florence Elion Mascott Feb 05, 2015 at 06:32 PM

Thanks to you both, I now have waterproof shoes?? sneakers? whatever....Thank you both. Now if I can find out if I have a single or double, I guess I will be all set. Cannot wait. till Monday...

Laura Moran Jan 27, 2015 at 11:07 AM

Dear Anna
I just received the final information in the mail and also found out that I will be able to join the group transfer from the airport to the hotel. My flight arrives at 2:07p, and the Road Scholar flight arrives at 2:40 pm. When is your flight? Will you be able to join a group transfer?
Anna Osborn Jan 27, 2015 at 12:45 PM

Hi, My communication says we can as well. Our flight arrives at 12:41 (United 1096 from Houston) I don't know if we will wait or just get a taxi. First thing I will try is to contact the hotel and ask if they have van service. Most do, but we have not stayed in this hotel before. Good that your time is close to their time. If we are on time and customs are fast as they usually are, we will probably get a taxi. I'll be in touch. Just heard you are having a lovely day today.
