Road Scholar
Program #20338RJ
9 Days | 8 Nights
ACTIVITY LEVEL: Moderately Challenging
Road Scholar has thousands of educational adventures to choose from. A good way to narrow down our list is to browse our collection of "Most Popular" programs.
See all of our Most Popular programs.
Love to learn in a small-group setting? This collection of programs has at most 10-24 participants.
See our Small Group programs.
EasyFor people looking to exercise their minds more than their bodies. There’s minimal walking and not too many stairs.
ModerateThese programs get you on your feet and include activities such as walking up to a mile in a day through a city and standing in a museum for a few hours.
ActiveFor people who enjoy walking as much as two miles a day, perhaps to explore historic neighborhoods or a nature trail.
Moderately ChallengingFor hardy explorers who enjoy a good physical challenge, spending most of their days on the go.
ChallengingGet ready to keep up with our highest-energy group. These demanding — and rewarding — programs are for seasoned outdoor enthusiasts.

Just wondering about currency. OK to pay in US dollars, or, is there a need to exchange to Canadian dollars?
Juanita Orth Sep 12, 2014 at 11:10 AM

we found that some would take $$; others not. credit card was best and when we got our statement found that the exchanage rate was in our favor. we did get some C $ from atm.....
Road Scholar Sep 12, 2014 at 11:36 AM

Hi Marsha, also of note, if you are going to rely on a credit card, please be sure to speak with your service provider first. Otherwise they may deny charges made outside the United States. Also, some credit cards have foreign transaction fees, which you will want to be aware of if you plan on using your credit card.

Who's going on Oct 12 from the Midwest?

Juanita Orth Jun 10, 2014 at 10:50 AM

anybody been on this trip before? discussion? thanks. nita orth

Juanita Orth Jun 04, 2014 at 01:59 PM

are the typical US credit cards ok for Montreal and QC? Is the best way to get money to use the ATMs?
Juanita Orth Jun 10, 2014 at 10:47 AM

no comment? from anybody?
Road Scholar Jun 26, 2014 at 09:40 AM

You should contact your financial institution directly and they would be able to assist you. Many locations outside of the US are requiring ATM cards with "chip-enabled" technology.

My wife and I are considering this program for later in the year. I have a question regarding transportation within Montreal and Quebec City. We are considering driving so that we would have a car in Montreal. If we have a car, would it be possible (necessary ?) to have a car in Quebec ? I know that Montreal has a very nice Metro system, is there public transportation in Quebec ?
Road Scholar Jun 26, 2014 at 09:42 AM

Once you arrive at the program destination, all transportation is taken care of. It is extremely rare that you will need a car on a Road Scholar, and if it is required, it is just because there is no available transportation options to get from the airport/bus/train station to the site.

I will have to check my passport for the expiration date and add that later.
Road Scholar Jun 26, 2014 at 09:44 AM

This is a public forum and intended for questions and general discussion only. Sensitive information such as passport details should be communicated directly with Road Scholar, at 1-877-426-8056.

Hello, I am looking for a roommate to share the program with. Could I readjust the trip cost down to double occupancy if I am able to get a roommate?

Luther Oelke May 10, 2012 at 09:12 PM

What is the best option at the end of the program in QC to get back to the Montreal rail station?
Road Scholar May 17, 2012 at 04:34 PM

By bus (no reservation needed) - Quebec City bus terminal is located half mile from the hotel. From Québec City to Montréal-Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport (One-way: 60+$58 / Adult $68 CAD) Duration 4 hours Departure from Québec City at 06:30 – 9:30 – 12:30 – 3:30 pm or 10:30 pm From Québec City to Montréal downtown (not to the airport). Daily service between Québec City and Montreal downtown living every hour (one-way: 60 +$49 / adult $57). Duration 3 hours To return to Montreal downtown by train: Schedule and rate: www.viarail.ca or toll free 1 888 842-7245. We do not suggest taking the train back if you have to catch a flight mid-afternoon. The bus is more efficient.

Thanks!

I will be on this trip next week. Do I need to exchange my American money for Canadian? And if so, where can I do that?
Juanita Orth Jun 10, 2014 at 10:49 AM

does Road scholar answer or the public?
Road Scholar Jun 26, 2014 at 09:37 AM

The forum is for public discussion. We continually moderate posts and chime in when necessary, though the Discussion Board itself is for interaction between our participants.
