Love to learn in a small-group setting? This collection of programs has at most 10-24 participants.
See our Small Group programs.
Close [ x ]
Easy
For people looking to exercise their minds more than their bodies. There’s minimal walking and not too many stairs.
Moderate
These programs get you on your feet and include activities such as walking up to a mile in a day through a city and standing in a museum for a few hours.
Active
For people who enjoy walking as much as two miles a day, perhaps to explore historic neighborhoods or a nature trail.
Moderately Challenging
For hardy explorers who enjoy a good physical challenge, spending most of their days on the go.
Challenging
Get ready to keep up with our highest-energy group. These demanding — and rewarding — programs are for seasoned outdoor enthusiasts.

We changed $100, $50 and $20 bills at the hotel with no problem except on one occassion where they would not accept a bill that was torn and damaged.
The $500 amount per person was enough for us and probably for most people except if significant purchases of art were made.

What denominations of cash is recommended to take that would make it easier to convert to local currency? Is the $500/person recommendation enough?

$500 is more than enough. I used $50, but I don't think you will have any problem with any denomination. You can exchange currency right at the hotel.

Good place for current information (including info about many choices you might make for the free night/dinner in Havana) : http://tinyurl.com/d8onasl

Hi, Paula!
As you will learn when you get to Cuba, they have a far better program of maternal and infant care than we have in the U.S., producing an infant mortality rate below that of the U.S., so, no, I wouldn't devote any of my 44 lbs. to bringing a book on pregnancy to Cuba!

Past participants: I have a lightly used Spanish-language version of the book "What to expect when you're expecting". If space/weight allows (44lb limit!) would this be helpful to bring along as a donation?

Anyone know the best way to get from Ft. Lauderdale Airport to Courtyard Marriott?

I do not think they have a shuttle there and as it is at least 30-45 min away, a taxi will be expensive. There is a train that runs from Palm Beach to Miami through Ft Laud. but I do not know the schedule or the cost. You should be able to google it. Have you thought about a rental car for a day? Catch a bus? As we are not a public transportation sociaity like europe, your question is a tough one and will likly cost you. Have you tried contacting the desk at the Marriott? If anyone one would know they would. Wish I could help more.

Here's the link to the train that Richard mentioned. http://www.tri-rail.com/ Schedules and fares are available on that site. You'll need to take a shuttle bus from the FLL terminal to the Tri-Rail stop, ride the train to MIA airport, take the Courtyard Marriott to the hotel. Lots of connections, but it works.

Louise, Sorry but our government does not allow us to "vacation" in Cuba. We are allowed to visit only on an educational or perhaps humanitarian trip. As such, you will be kept quite busy as Roxann said well into the evenings and you can wander around on your own before (usually around 0830) in the mornings or after the scheduled dinners in the evenings. We did wander around some and never felt threatened although some understanding of Spanish would be of great help (we didn't have any). There is plenty of night life to participate in if you choose as the music would go on until the whee hours of the morning. If beach time is what your looking for, the Cuba trip may not be your best choice.

How much? Also, does Road Scholar offer the option to solo travellers to share a room? I've enjoyed this option with other companies and it is a really nice alternative to the supplement.

The price depends on the program. Road Scholar gives you this information when you check on any of their trips. Many of the programs also offer opportunities to share a room.
