Who's going on Trip 14253?

Larry Lacey
Lorraine Sexton Jun 25, 2013 at 08:00 PM

Hi, Larry, I'm going on the trip to Southwest France and I'm excited about it.
Laurence Lacey Jun 26, 2013 at 03:05 PM

Great, where are you from?
Lorraine Sexton Jun 27, 2013 at 06:58 PM

I'm from Philadelphia and I'll be flying from there. Where are you from?
Lorraine Sexton Jun 27, 2013 at 07:01 PM

I've found some additional fun books to help me imagine I'm already in France and I'd recommend them to you and anyone else who's on the trip: Martin Walker is the author of a detective series set in the Dordogne with a local policeman, named Bruno, as the main character. I think there are three in the series so far and the next one is going to be published in July. There's lots of local color and the hero himself is an interesting character. Have you come across anything you'd recommend?
Laurence Lacey Jun 27, 2013 at 09:19 PM

Road scholar recommended "time line "
Laurence Lacey Jun 27, 2013 at 09:20 PM

Laurence Lacey Jun 27, 2013 at 09:27 PM

Time line has some local references but overall another thriller.
Laurence Lacey Jun 28, 2013 at 01:21 PM

We're from northern CA. Near sacramento.

Thanks for the tip on the Bruno series. Reading "Bruno, Chief of Police. Entertaining and informative.
Lorraine Sexton Jul 16, 2013 at 07:09 PM

I'm glad you're enjoying the Bruno series!

So far I have read 2 of the books on the Recommended Reading list. Timeline by Michael Crichton which mixes action and suspense in an dual universe sort of way. Also The Road for the Past by Ina Caro whose several chapters on Southwest France are very informative and reflect her love of all things French. Both are great reads and have me pumped for the trip. Paul, I would be interested in your experiences, thoughts and impressions of this trip. Thanks and have a great time!
Kay Wisniewski Apr 17, 2013 at 10:29 AM

My wife and I usually post program reviews so keep looking in early June after we return. Paul

Susan Roos Apr 16, 2013 at 12:44 PM

Today it was 75 degrees and sunny in Bordeaux. That would be a great way to start the program on May 10.
Kay Wisniewski Apr 16, 2013 at 11:49 PM

Looking forward to some sun and wine. Last June my wife and I took the ABP tour, Amsterdam, Brussels and Paris and it was cold and wet. Are you on lthe current session of the Southwest France tour? Paul Wisniewski
Susan Roos Apr 18, 2013 at 11:02 AM

Yes, I am on the May 9 SW France tour. Getting excited now that departure is only 3 weeks away. Sunny Roos

Hi, My husband and I are very new to Road Scholar and are looking towards booking a program for 2014. We are interested in a program in Southern France, that includes Sarlat and Bordeaux. We see 2 programs - one land, the other on a river vessel. I'd be interested in hearing from anyone who has gone on either program, to get thoughts and impressions. We have been on 2 river cruises (Deilmann and AMA) and loved them. I'd like some information on the river vessels RS uses. Thanks so much! I appreciate any information offered!

Kay Wisniewski Mar 21, 2013 at 09:26 AM

Dave McIntyre, wine writer for the Washington Post, had a column on March 19th on wines of Southwestern France. Although the wines aren't all made from the 5 "noble" grapes, he wrote we would have some tasty choices. Unfortunately there was only one Maryland retailer listed for the wines he reviewed. Maybe you will have better luck in your area. Go to, search Dave McIntrye for the article, and click 5 wines to try for his recommendations. Looking forward to the trip and wines! Paul Wisniewski
