See all of our Most Popular programs.
EasyFor people looking to exercise their minds more than their bodies. There’s minimal walking and not too many stairs.
ModerateThese programs get you on your feet and include activities such as walking up to a mile in a day through a city and standing in a museum for a few hours.
ActiveFor people who enjoy walking as much as two miles a day, perhaps to explore historic neighborhoods or a nature trail.
Moderately ChallengingFor hardy explorers who enjoy a good physical challenge, spending most of their days on the go.
ChallengingGet ready to keep up with our highest-energy group. These demanding — and rewarding — programs are for seasoned outdoor enthusiasts.

Oh my, sorry to hear about your suitcase. One person in our group experienced that, too. Ralph offered underwear, but there was a shop close to the first hotel. We all celebrated when they appeared in different (outer) clothes! - It's a wonderful, wonderful trip. Enjoy everyone! CAROLE

By the way, I'm Carole (not Ralph)! We were in Sicily at the end of October into November. The weather was perfect. The only time we needed a jacket was when we visited the very high hill town in the northwest (Noto?) Don't have a map with me.

Ralph Kline Sep 06, 2014 at 12:39 PM

I second Carol's comment below. None of our group, last fall, had or used either a cane or a walking stick.
Rita Houlihan Sep 08, 2014 at 02:11 AM

OK thank you. Since Alitalia has lost my suitcase I wasn'the able to test my walking stick in Pompeii - but I didn'the need one there, just need some new clothes!!

Carol Kurtz Sep 06, 2014 at 10:12 AM

I didn't use or need a walking stick on the Treasures of Sicily trip. None of my fellow travelers had one but, as always, that is a personal preference. If you normally use one you might want to have it with you.

We are signed up for the "Treasures of Sicily" departing 10/20/14. Someone mentioned a walking stick..did I miss something. Was this piece of equipment mentioned in the brochure or suggested/required? I had not even thought of bringing anything for walking except a comfy pair of shoes.
Rita Houlihan Sep 08, 2014 at 02:09 AM

the list of suggested items in the hardcopy itinerary do received includes a walking stick. Alitalia lost my suitcase so I don't have my walking stick so cannot tell you whether or not I will find it useful. I'mean over b in Naples for a few days before the Treasures of Sicily trip that starts on the 9th.

I am going on Treasures of Sicily Sept.9-24 and would like recommendations for a walking stick. Should I get one that can take different tips for a variety of terrains? I've also seen the sticks that can expand to be a 5foot staff which may be good on hills. Or is a regular, foldable cane type stick ok? Thank you

Glad to learn you are on the Treasures of Sicily. Would be grateful for any observations, comments, tips you'd care to share during your adventure.

I bought a pair of Black Diamond Ultra Distance hiking poles based on reviews and conversations with REI advisors.
Chuck Baroo Aug 30, 2014 at 05:24 PM

Have tested them out in local parks and am quite satisfied. They are pricey but are available on Amazon for about $100. Apologies for the multiple postings. I keep hitting the wrong button. Have a delightful trip!
Rita Houlihan Sep 01, 2014 at 12:14 AM

Hello Chuck, thank you. I just checked my local EMS and see they carry the Black Diamond and poles by Leki that look good. So I will head down there on Tues. Thank you for the tip. Hope you enjoy your end of Sept. trip.

Am eagerly looking forward to visiting Sicily with Road Scholar 9/29-10/15/2014. I am departing JFK, 9/29, on Alitalia. Would like to chat beforehand with others on the same trip and departing at the same time.
Toni Sep 02, 2014 at 06:27 PM

I believe my sister and I are on the same flight but we are starting out in Chicago. Am really looking forward to spending quality time in Sicily.

Ralph Kline Oct 19, 2013 at 11:48 PM

Jeanne, Just told Ralph that you have 34 minutes to make the 5:45 flight. Do you know what terminal you're flying into? We don't know JFK well, but we know that at Newark, you would never make an international flight if you arrive at a different terminal. The security lines can be a zoo at a new terminal unless you have the TSAprecheck/Global access pass? And even if you do, it might take that long to get to Terminal 1, where our flight is leaving from. Good luck - maybe you'll arrive early?
Jeanne Frank Oct 20, 2013 at 10:15 AM

I don't know our arrival terminal. I talked to both Delta and RS and they said that the airline would be responsible for making alternate arrangements if we miss the flight. What a way to start ut a trip!
