ModerateThese programs get you on your feet and include activities such as walking up to a mile in a day through a city and standing in a museum for a few hours.
ActiveFor people who enjoy walking as much as two miles a day, perhaps to explore historic neighborhoods or a nature trail.
Moderately ChallengingFor hardy explorers who enjoy a good physical challenge, spending most of their days on the go.
ChallengingGet ready to keep up with our highest-energy group. These demanding — and rewarding — programs are for seasoned outdoor enthusiasts.
If you’re looking for a more flexible schedule with ample independent time and several meals on your own, then our FLEX learning adventures are made for you.

You have the advantage of me. My roommate, Shirley, is a food snob. We've known each other forever and have been lots of places together. It was her late husband, Ernie, I believe who told me that she didn't like "mass food", e.g., food prepared in massive quantities for the masses. When we went to Scotland a few years ago, nothing would do but we had to eat at the Three Chimneys Restaurant on the Isle of Skye. The place has its own helicopter landing site! She might let me have one pub lunch but we will be on the prowl for fine dining establishments.

We have travelled in the UK many times and usually eat at pubs for a decent meal at a decent price. We just viewed the PBS special "The Pubs of Dublin" on Netflix and it seems you can find the same in Ireland. It also appears blue jeans are a favored attire in Ireland. Incidentally, I strongly recommend the PBS program which was produced by Iowa Public TV in 2008. It was hosted by Frank McCourt. IF you don't have Netflix, google it.

good to hear that jeans are ok as that is what I am packing also the pubs sound great, Mickey Hazzlerigg

It's been my experience that food/drink is always expensive in Europe. I have learned not to even try and dress up on these trips--involves too much luggage; black is always a good color for evening wear.

Jack Rivers Jun 09, 2013 at 04:34 PM

Any words of advice on dress as far as nights out? There is a candlelight dinner in Galway and a Farewell Dinner in Dublin.... Also, is food and drink expensive?
Dolores Hazzlerigg Jun 09, 2013 at 05:28 PM

I am packing light so no fancy clothes for me. I also would like to know how much to expect to pay for meals out. Mickey Hazzlerigg
Paula Baker Jun 09, 2013 at 07:18 PM

The dinners are not 'dressy, dressy'. Jacket and tie look great but are not required. I didn't think food and drink were expensive at all. Your guide will suggest several places to check out and all the restaurants have their menus posted so you can stroll around and decide. For lunch, we'd stop for soup or sandwich and a drink and it was 7-8 euros. Dinners we had were $ 13- $ 20, dependent on if you had fish or beef. I was SO delighted at the quality and presentation of meals as I'd expected 'Irish stew with a side of potatoes' as standard fare! :-)

Any one going Aug. 29th - Sept.12th
I would like to meet some ladies,Mickey

Judy Reynolds May 10, 2013 at 09:14 AM

I'm booked for the Sept 12 trip and I'm hoping some of the people who went in April and May will post some comments about their trip.
Paula Baker Jun 09, 2013 at 07:13 PM

I had a FABULOUS time in April, Judy! And your weather will probably be scads better! Some of the highlights of my trip were the pub in Killarney, visiting the Irish school, the Cliffs of Moher, strolling around Galway and even the hop on-hop off bus in Dublin. I wish I could be going again in September. Have a blast!

Is anyone going from Oct. 10-24? I have yet to see anyone, besides me, going on these dates. I got my passport yesterday and now I am "rarin'" to go!

Ina Karish Apr 27, 2013 at 11:45 AM

Heading for the May 24-June 6 program. Anyone going on those dates?
Katharine Stewart Apr 27, 2013 at 12:31 PM

Hi Ina, we are going on this trip too! Jada, Katharine and Carol. Have you been before?
Ina Karish Apr 27, 2013 at 01:09 PM

Ahn and I have never been before, but Ahn's family history seems to lead to Dingle. Therefore, we're headed over a few days early to explore Cork & Dingle before joining the rest of you. Can't wait!
Katharine Stewart Apr 28, 2013 at 05:58 AM

Oh fun! We will check on some geneology things in Dublin while we're there. Nice to 'meet' you!
