I am on the April 7-12 Savannah trip and will be going on to a Road Scholar Charleston, SC program April 14-19. Is anyone else combining these two programs back to back? Looking for easy way to travel from Savannah to Charleston.

Have investigated transportation alternatives from Savannah to Charleston when combining Road Scholar programs back to back in each historical district stay: Amtrak has a morning train at about 8:30 and gets to Charleston after 10:00 and an evening train that leaves near 7:30 and arrives after 9:00. The costs vary between $25-30 depending on regular coach fare and business class. Hope this info. helps anyone looking for alternative transportation.

Was on the April 7-12 program and wanted to comment on the Amtrak train ride from Savannah to Charleston. Took a morning train from Savannah that was very nice, indeed. Took a taxi from the Desoto Hotel in the historic district to the Savannah station for $9.00. The station had a very nice waiting area to sit and people to help on a Friday morning. Business class had fewer people and a wonderful choice of seats to choose from and the scenery was very nice along with 1 1/2 hour route to Charleston. There is a taxi at the Charleston station that one can take if needed. This station has a waiting room, but not as staffed as Savannah, but nice to come into. Hope this helps anyone who is thinking about alternative transportation between the two historical districts of Savannah and Charleston.

I am looking for a roommate for this program. I would like to go on this trip either the end of April or first of May. I spent 2 days in Savannah a few years ago, but I want to go back and learn about the history of this beautiful city. Please contact me hrh007@sbcglobal.net

How many participants going?

Carol Alexander Jan 02, 2013 at 12:24 PM

I am enrolled in the Feb. 24-Mar. 1 Savannah program #11376 and the Mar. 3-8 Kayaking the Low Country program #12440. I'd like to share a ride from Savannah to Ridgeland, SC on Mar. 3 if anyone else has the same program schedule. I understand the trip is about 30 miles and costs around $75 by cab for up to 7 people. My e-mail is Carollee@nycap.rr.com.

Sheila Aron Bracken Somehow, my earlier review did not post.
This was one of the best Road Scholar trips I've participated in. The city of Savannah is charming...easy to navigate. The presenters were knowledgeable and informative. The history reinactors were mesmerizing. The cooking class was fun, interactive and learned so much. The food was wonderful...be prepared for weight gain, as there was delectible desserts at each meal. Walking and strolling through Savannah was not a problem. The hotel was wonderful, and conveniently located in the historical area. I highly recommend this fabulous program.

Shella thank you for taking the time to write such a positive review of this program. My husband and I are registered for the one beginning on May 12th and appreciate your comments!
