My husband and I will be taking the Amsterdam-Bupdapest cruise departing May 10, followed by the Bupdapest-Istanbul cruise departing June 6. We will arrive in Amsterdam May 6, and departing Istanbul June 24. Anyone else out there doing any of the same?

I have this trip on my wish list - want to try to retrace my family roots - my father was born in Romania, now Cluj which at times was part of Hungary My father was a holocaust survivor so unfortunately there is very little information about his life before WWII. I would be traveling alone and wonder if other adult females have done this with this group but without a traveling companion. If others are signed up for June 2015 or Sept. 2015 please let me know. Still on the fence so would like to know if others are already registered.

I took this trip last Spring without a traveling companion, and I was fine. The other participants were very welcoming, and the group leaders made sure in subtle ways that I always felt included.. It was my first Road Scholar trip, and I can't wait to participate in another one. Go for it!

I am enrolled in the May 3, 2014 departure program. I will be flying from London-Heathrow on Sunday, May 4th via SwissAir, arriving in Budapest around 2 pm. Is anyone else doing the same or arriving in Budapest at around the same time? It would be nice to share a taxi to the hotel. Looking forward to this adventure!

My husband and I are on the May 29 departure for this trip. Anyone else out there? We are from the Asheville NC area.
Sonia Ascher May 02, 2013 at 03:08 PM

Hi, my husband and I are also on the May 29 departure. We are from NH and the UK. Looking forward to meeting you.
Alicia Hulse May 02, 2013 at 06:16 PM

Hi Sonia - we are also hikers and have hiked Cotswold Way and West Highland Way in the UK. Look forward to meeting you as well!

Thanks. It won't be long now!

One of my friends from a previous trip just boarded the Amabella (a sister ship to ours) in Budapest heading west (we'll be going east). Thought I'd share one of her FB comments here: "Arriving in Vienna as I type. Yesterday after the tour of budapest we set sail west on our journey to Amsterdam. the food is a definite downfall which we are attempting to overcome and the wines are all great and not quite so easy to pass up. My waiter last night advised me to keep drinking and just wave my napkin and he would be there to escort me - and he was. Shame he was a little too young. The plunge pool which is way too hot in the day was a perfect temperature last night around 9.30 and it seems like a week since we departed Budapest" Am getting so excited for our trip. I leave in 2 weeks! Anybody else out there joining me?

Would love to know more as you travel in September. Especially anything about packing--what do you wish you'd packed, what didn't you need, what was essential? Also any comments about the trip. (I depart the US Sept. 28.) Sounds like a wonderful trip
Teresa Wilkin Sep 28, 2012 at 03:34 PM

You'll have a wonderful time! There are so many amenities on the ship, I can't think of a thing you'll need that they cannot provide. They have umbrellas, canes, bicycles, just about anything you'll need. There's even a computer for personal use in your room! Just take your passport and a camera. They'll take care of the rest!

I am a tennis fan and this trip puts us in Istanbul October 22 to 25. I notice that the women's end-of-year tournament will be IN ISTANBUL while we are there. I thoought about playing hooky for a day to go watch tennis instead, but the planned program looks like a much better use of my time. We have never been anywhere close to Istanbul before!

Would love to communicate with anyone traveling on the trip beginning Oct 14. I'll be arriving that morning via boat--after two weeks on the MS Amadolce from Amsterdam. Will be paired with a roommate, so also interested in meeting other women who plan to have a roommate. I know little about this part of Europe. Would love to hear from anyone who has been here before.
Judith Byrne Riley Sep 03, 2012 at 11:11 AM

My husband and I will on that trip and are very excited about the locations. Packing? That is my next question, for anyone who has gone this time of year.
Carol Green Sep 16, 2012 at 10:36 PM

I am a single person coming on this trip. I am coming from being in Paris for 2 weeks. I plan to arrive Sat Oct 13. I get the feeling the weather is like Spring/Fall we'll see

Teresa Wilkin Apr 25, 2012 at 02:51 PM

I am booked to arrive Budapest a day early (am departing U.S. on September 3). Am signed up for a single share room on the cruise, but RS will not allow me to meet my roommate in advance, so am taking this means to see if I can ferret out any info about who I might be sharing with. Let me know if there are any other single ladies out there on the September 4 departure, and if any would be interested in sharing a B&B room the night of September 4 in Budapest before boarding the cruise on the 5th!
