See our Small Group programs.

ModerateThese programs get you on your feet and include activities such as walking up to a mile in a day through a city and standing in a museum for a few hours.
ActiveFor people who enjoy walking as much as two miles a day, perhaps to explore historic neighborhoods or a nature trail.
Moderately ChallengingFor hardy explorers who enjoy a good physical challenge, spending most of their days on the go.

Judy Briley May 22, 2013 at 12:29 PM

Hello fellow cohorts on the June 6 Silk Road in Central Asia Trip. We are Judy and Denny Briley from Kansas City area. We will be departing from Chicago to Frankfurt connecting on Lufthansa to Almaty. From what I see on the blog it looks like a number of us will be on the Almaty flight. Looking forward to the trip. Safe travel

Bertram Longbotham May 20, 2013 at 11:14 AM

Hi from Molly O'Donnell and Robert Harris. She and I met in upstate NY, Binghamton, about 25 years ago! We live in north Jersey and we're leaving from Newark, transferring at Frankfurt, Germany. Look forward to meeting you -- Robert

Robert Harris May 18, 2013 at 04:57 PM

Hi - we've met one person from the June cohort, but is anyone else leaving with us in, hmm, about two weeks?!

James Massie May 18, 2013 at 03:49 PM

We are booked on the October 3 program. We live in Western New York. We would be open to hearing from others going at the same time. massie5555@hotmail.com
Dawn Vincent May 19, 2013 at 07:59 PM

James, I will be going on this trip, and I have heard from Marilyn and Warren Blaisdell, also on the trip. I am from Memphis, but I believe the Blaisdells are from further north! I don't know how large a group this is, it is my first Road Scholar trip.

Catherine Cloud May 16, 2013 at 02:06 PM

We're booked for the October 24th departure and would love to hear from fellow travelers, those who will be with us and those who've gone before especially at this time of year. Catherine Cloud & Ray Chesnut (seacloud@greatnorthern.net)

We are on the Oct. 24 trip. Looking forward to it. We did the Caucasus trip last October, and I agree about dragging heavy suitcases across the border.

Patricia Maughan May 15, 2013 at 03:42 PM

I'll be taking the Sept. 5 to 23 trip. Anyone else out there who'll be joining me and my friends? Also, for those who've already taken this trip, is there anything you packed or did that you would particularly recommend or discourage? Many thanks!
Dorothy Baker May 15, 2013 at 03:57 PM

We never used our walking sticks. The hotels supplied hair dryers. It cannot be said too many times-pack lightly. Dragging heavy suitcases across borders is no fun..
Danna Moore May 15, 2013 at 10:23 PM

I didn't use my walking stick, didn't take a hair dryer. If you need feminine supplies, take all that you might need. PACK LIGHTLY!!

Lois Derry May 15, 2013 at 03:35 PM

Who is going on the Sept 26th Silk Road Trip?

Marilyn Blaisdell May 11, 2013 at 02:22 PM

Can anyone confirm that electrical outlets in all of the Silk Road Companies visited require a Type B receptacle adaptor in order for us to utilize them?
Wende Hitchcock May 11, 2013 at 08:43 PM

Yes. I returned Monday from the Silk Road tour. The only adapter I used was B for all countries.
Marilyn Blaisdell May 12, 2013 at 08:40 AM

Thank you Wende. How was the trip - any recommendations. We are really looking forward to our October 3 trip. Marilyn
Wende Hitchcock May 16, 2013 at 03:29 PM

take a lot of small denomination, dollars for buying things at bazaars. Ones, fives, tens. If you wish to purchase beverages they come in handy too. You should be able to change money easily into local currency as well. Our guide - who was amazing- helped with that. If you are a coffee drinker it is not always available and sometimes only instant coffee is offered. Although I'm not a Starbucks fan, I wish I had taken some of their packets of Via instant which is actually pretty good. If you use wash cloths I suggest taking a fast drying baby wash cloth or two. It's a wonderful tour!
