Going on the Nov 2-18 trip. Egypt should be quieter by then IMO. Not all of Cairo is exploding even now so tourists should be fine IMO despite dire warnings. Would not go if Egypt portion were excluded. I will definitely shoot over to Bethlehem during the political afternoon talks while in Jerusalem. Need to find the PC cab that can get thru (and back!) the West Bank checkpoints between J and B. Want to see the Church of the Nativity and maybe other things there. Anyone already dialed into how to best do that? / Tom Resk

Four of us are signed up for this tour starting Nov 2. Anyone out there think we really may go on the Egyptian part of the tour?

My roommate and I have booked on the October 12-28 trip and plan to arrive on October 10. If you are arriving prior to October 12 and would like to join up with us on tours to places not covered in our trip, would you let me know. Thanks.

Also, is there anyone signed up on this trip that would like to exchange ideas, etc.?

John Kristofic Jul 08, 2013 at 04:37 PM

My wife and I are scheduled October 18. The payment is due July27. I understand the State Department is advising Americans not to travel to Egypt. What to do?
Richard Landres Jul 09, 2013 at 08:15 PM

wn, We're reserved on the Oct. 12th trip. I've called the company several times, as have others. They say they are monitoring thre situation and will certainly cancel if their in country staff feels there is excessive risk. However, for those of us who were planning independent pre-tour travel, a late cancelation by the company, if if were to happen, would be most inconvenient at best. So we're thinking of using our deposit for an alternative Road Scholar tour, and rebooking this tour at some future date when the area is less unsettled.
John Kristofic Jul 12, 2013 at 09:37 AM

That certainly makes a lot of sense. The February trip was cancelled with 10 days notice. But those who rescheduled for April had a great time. My fear is that this is may turn out to be a more protracted period of instability.
John Kristofic Jul 15, 2013 at 02:51 PM

We're inclined to make the deposit and let Road Scholar make the final decision. Is any body else going?
John Kristofic Jul 20, 2013 at 09:08 AM

Made the deposit. I hope we did the right thing

Hi, My wife and I are scheduled for the 11/30-12/16 trip. Is there anyone else out there signed up yet??

Richard Wolpert May 26, 2013 at 08:59 PM

Rick Steves has been travelling through Egypt, Israel and Palestine, posting on his blog on a regular basis. Some very interesting comments on rhe situation there. Said he saw no American tourists but a number of tourists from other countries. See (blog.ricksteves.com)

I did forget to mention that I'm on the Delta flight.

Is anyone leaving from JFK? If so, and you want to make contact, look for the red Road Scholar tag on my baggage in the waiting area after 7:30.
Jacqueline Labatt-Simon Apr 13, 2013 at 11:38 AM

I am leaving from JFK, but on American. See you in Israel. Doesn't that sound exciting.
