ACTIVITY LEVEL: Easy
Road Scholar has thousands of educational adventures to choose from. A good way to narrow down our list is to browse our collection of "Most Popular" programs.
See all of our Most Popular programs.
Love to learn in a small-group setting? This collection of programs has at most 10-24 participants.
See our Small Group programs.
EasyFor people looking to exercise their minds more than their bodies. There’s minimal walking and not too many stairs.
ModerateThese programs get you on your feet and include activities such as walking up to a mile in a day through a city and standing in a museum for a few hours.
ActiveFor people who enjoy walking as much as two miles a day, perhaps to explore historic neighborhoods or a nature trail.
Moderately ChallengingFor hardy explorers who enjoy a good physical challenge, spending most of their days on the go.
ChallengingGet ready to keep up with our highest-energy group. These demanding — and rewarding — programs are for seasoned outdoor enthusiasts.

Yes, I was very glad I brought mine.

Ann Smith Mar 21, 2014 at 04:59 PM

Should I take binoculars for bird watching?
Robin Lyle Mar 21, 2014 at 06:00 PM

absolutely! the birds are spectacular and our guides were very good at pointing them out.

Janet De Vry Jan 18, 2014 at 11:25 AM

I am wondering if light weight travel underwear is worth the expense. Any advice? We are going in Feb.
Sally Stelljes Jan 18, 2014 at 01:32 PM

Check average temps online. It was warm in March.
Mia James Jan 20, 2014 at 01:41 PM

I bought some lightweight underwear from Ex Officio a few years ago and I think its worth it. I often travel for long periods and being able to "wash and wear" is important to me. I also take a package of disposable briefs and wear these at the end of the trip.

Mia James Jan 16, 2014 at 02:26 PM

I am on the Mar 5-15 trip and it was good to see the need for rain gear emphasized. Is anyone else coming from the West Coast for this trip?
Sally Stelljes Jan 17, 2014 at 07:57 AM

Marvelous trip. We went March 2013. Yes, rain gear essential but lots of beautiful weather.

Sheila Moran Dec 30, 2013 at 03:37 PM

I am going on this trip next week Jan 6. Anyone else going at this time from the Boston area?

Linda Copes Nov 21, 2013 at 01:11 AM

Am thinking of enrolling in the April 1 trip does anyone know if the weather should be OK? I guess that's the start of the rainy season...thanks

Hi linda-we did this trip about the same time last spring. There are two seasons in COSTA RICA, rainy & rainier. do
Sally Stelljes Nov 21, 2013 at 06:27 AM

NOT let this deter you from going. Take tin gear, it is warm & wonderful with lots of sunshine between the raindrops . We thoroughly enjoyed this adventure.
Sally Stelljes Nov 21, 2013 at 06:28 AM

Please excuse the disjointed post. I meant RAIN gear.

nancy shneiderman Nov 07, 2013 at 02:45 PM

My mate and I are attending this program in February.

Robin Lyle Aug 06, 2013 at 03:14 AM

We are going on the 8/14 trip coming up soon. We went to Costa Rica a year and a half ago and really loved it. We are avid birdwatchers so there's lots to love! But the people, the food, the natural beauty were all great too! I'm looking forward to this adventure.
Rochelle Cashdan Oct 01, 2013 at 07:49 PM

And wasn't it great, Robin!
