We attended a wonderful short concert at the church during free time. Well worth it.

Anyone going on the New Year's Eve Iceland trip leaving either 12/28 or 12/29/14. If you have asthma, as I do, or cardiac concerns please take a look at the websites I've listed. The volcano on Iceland is still erupting and spewing a variety of gases including Sulpher Dioxide. This gas can cause serious problems for anyone who has asthma or heart conditions. Please take a look at the web site http://en.vedur.is/weather/forecasts/gas-model/ that shows where the pollution is expected to be in the next 48 hours. The danger is the possible exposure to Sulfur Dioxide. This could happen if the wind shifts and blows to the west. http://www.ust.is/the-environment-agency-of-iceland/ is a website explaining the possible consequences for people with asthma or heart conditions for different concentrations of SO2. Please contact me if you have any of these concerns. Thanks, Norman Danzig husband of Gail Drum.

Eileen Wigginton, solo traveler (single room) from Denver, Dec. 29th. Anyone else from Denver?

You will have a great trip. Fascinating country. Loved it yak traks easy to slip on shoes give great traction, black dress or pants with fancy scarf worked well for New Years.

Barbara Bennett Aug 18, 2014 at 09:47 AM

I am a solo traveler signed up for the Dec 29, 2014 departure. Any advice from those who went on this adventure last year?
Erin Griffin Aug 18, 2014 at 09:59 AM

It was a great trip! There were plenty of singles as well as couples. Warm, comfortable walking boots with good traction are useful. Not that cold but a bit icy. Bring a nice dress for New Year's Eve. Some of did a side trip to see the northern lights - wasn't all that spectacular, although a fun evening.
Barbara Bennett Aug 18, 2014 at 02:16 PM

Great feedback, Erin. Thank you. I assume from your description that short boots will work (i.e., we won't be trudging through deep snow)?
Sandi M Aug 25, 2014 at 12:58 PM

Last year's trip was wonderful. It was icy, but not snowy. I'd suggest packing your things for the Blue Lagoon in your carry on luggage for easy access. It was cold and windy, so pack a scarf and gloves. Enjoy.
Barbara Bennett Aug 25, 2014 at 01:17 PM

Thank you, Sandi. That is very helpful.

Erin Griffin Dec 26, 2013 at 09:26 AM

Is anyone planning to get a treatment at the Blue Lagoon? Anyone know how much time we will have there?
Sarah D Dec 26, 2013 at 10:05 AM

Looking forward to meeting everyone on this exciting trip! Not planning any spa treatments at Blue Lagoon. Just relaxing in the water.

Sandi M Nov 20, 2013 at 04:06 PM

I am also a solo traveler and am anxious to see the Northern Lights also. I would gladly join anyone who is going to do this.

Erin Griffin Nov 17, 2013 at 09:49 PM

Check out this article - looks like we will be there at the right time!
Sarah D Nov 17, 2013 at 10:54 PM

Yes, I have read about this too. I hope we get a great show! Wonder if we need to make reservations or wait until we get there? I'd also like to ride the Icelandic ponies, but most of the stables are closed at that time of year. Really looking forw

What I can gather from the internet is that there is a bus excursion every night! Reykjavik Excursions. They pick up at hotel and head to where they think the best area is for viewing. You get free 2nd trip if there is nothing to see the first time. Anyone else find out anything about this?Would really love to see it!
