I have details from Road Scholar about logistics. When they suggest a small suitcase, they mean 26 inches, but that seems too big for a small person to hoist up to a train car. Luggage is stored on the same train you are riding in on a luggage rack. All trains have restrooms. I would like to hear from past participants. I am thinking of taking a roller board and a backpack rather than a 26 inch suitcase, because I don't think I can handle a suitcase that large.

My Wife is Gluten Free, Soy Free and Dairy Free, Will all the meals acomadate food allergies like this and be careful to not cross contaminate the food? We have done Holland America and Viking River Cruises with good results, but also have had some hotels and resterants that could not be bothered with dietary alergies

Chuck and I are enrolled in the Sept 6-21, 2015 program. We are really looking forward to the adventure.
Carol Rose Dec 03, 2014 at 05:03 PM

Joel and I are registered for the Sept 6-21 trip also. Look forward to meeting you. Where are you from?
Clara McCall Dec 03, 2014 at 09:56 PM

We live in Glencoe, IL (north of Chicago). Where do you live?
Carol Rose Dec 04, 2014 at 02:05 PM

We're in Vancouver WA - right on Columbia River across from Portland, OR.

Did all the hotels have non-smoking rooms available?
Sharon Weiss Sep 13, 2014 at 10:45 PM

I don't know. I wonder if those who went previously can tell us.
Mark Anderson Oct 10, 2014 at 12:03 PM

My wife and I took this trip in June 2014; wonderful experience; all rooms are non-smoking
Carol Rose Oct 10, 2014 at 01:54 PM

Thank you, Mark.

We are thinking to taking this trip next year. Did all of the trains have restrooms? What class of service did you take?

Mark Anderson May 29, 2014 at 10:50 AM

We are going on the June 7-22 trip; we have used hiking poles on some of our other Road Scholar trips; wondering if they would helpful on this trip?

Was also concerned about smoking when I signed up for the trip in September 2012. Found no smoking in any public building or train. Really did not encounter smoking on the streets. This was an adventure trip with WOWS everyday.
Athena Robbins May 16, 2014 at 12:34 PM

Thanks for your perspective. I remember widespread smoking in Europe decades ago and wasn't sure if it had changed at all.

Athena Robbins May 08, 2014 at 11:30 PM

Concerned about smoking on the European trains and elsewhere. My travelling companion is allergic to tobacco.
Is smoking allowed on any part of the trains? What about in restaurants in the cities?
