I did this trip in May. Road Scholar arrange all my travel; all connections worked like a charm.

The trip was everything I could have hope for -- beautiful sights, wonderful food and wonderful experiences at every corner. This was the first time I had been to Europe in 17 years and I am ready to find another Road Scholar European trip.

The trip is a 4 in terms of walking and a 2 in hiking. At least half of the time you are walking on "{billy goat" trails and good hiking shoes are a must and walking sticks helpful.

I am taking this trip in September 2014. I would love to get to know others ahead of time - either on this discussion board or through email.

Hello Linda- I am taking this trip in September and leaving from Washington-Dulles airport. I live in Falls Church VA. My daughter and her family are in Croatia now -- so I will look forward to getting tips from her.
Linda Main Jul 27, 2014 at 11:19 AM

Anne, I live in Sioux Falls, SD and will leave from Chicago on the 17th and then connect in Frankfort. I am so looking forward to this trip, which will be my first with RS. Have you taken other RS walking trips?
Anne Stewart Aug 07, 2014 at 12:08 PM

Hi Linda- I am also connecting in Frankfort (from Dulles) to Split on the 18th at 12:05. This will be my 4th RS program -- one was hiking in the Adirondacks, the second was paddling in the Adirondacks -- loved them both. the third trip was an All American get together in Santa Fe. A completely different kind of trip. My daughter and her family have returned home from Croatia -- and I know it is going to be beautiful and fun!

I am doing this trip May 7 - 20 and flying through Houston on May 7. I would like to meet fellow travelers in Houston if anyone is making this same connection. Terri

My wife and I are thinking of doing this trip, but I have trouble with heights when there is a steep drop off along a trail. Are any of the hikes along trails of this nature? Thanks.

I am interested in doing this trip in 2014 and wanted to ask about the difficulty of the walking/hiking. OK for an old geezer in good health?
Linda K Murphy Nov 11, 2013 at 09:20 AM

Sally, I took this trip in September 2012. Most of the walking/hiking is of moderate difficulty and the scenery, esp. along the coastal walks is wonderful. Some uphill parts were more challenging for me, but were accomplished successfully, if a little slower than some of the other hikers. I am in my mid 60s. We had some of our lunches in small delightful out-of-the way places cooked by locals (you would not find them on your own) – a mountain cabin luncheon on Biokovo Mtn. cooked by a mountain guide and initiated with locally made ‘white lightening’, a riverside home with an owner-cooked meal and local red/white wines, etc., but most dinners were at the hotels. You can, however, wander off on your own for more variety. I recommend a restaurant outside of Makarska called Konoba Ranc Tucepi. The wine I had there was quite good – Peljesac (the label has a donkey on it). If you decide to go, I'm sure you would enjoy it.

Thankw for the info, Linda. Sounds like something I would like to do! Will be building up strength between now and then in order to tackle those uphills!

Just returned from this program. For whatever reason we were scheduled without appropriate group leadership. One pays more for Road Scholar than any other group offering in Europe that I know and one should be able to expect more.

Linda K Murphy Aug 15, 2012 at 12:13 PM

anyone on this trip interested in staying a couple extra days in Dubrovnik? please let me know. i have an apartment in Old Town for the 18th and 19th, departing on the 20th. lkmurphy@optimum.net

oops, our trip was a slightly different name - I think just Hidden Treasures of the Dalmation coast.
