Day One: Sunday, April 12 - Registration and Orientation
Arrive To: (Sunday, January 25) Day Highlights Welcome and Orientation/Dinner at the hotel Overnight Location* St. Petersburg, Florida Accommodations Magnuson Hotel - Marina Cove Arrive To CHECK IN: Available from 3:00 pm at the Magnuson Hotel front desk. PROGRAM REGISTRATION: After you have your room assignment, come over to the Road Scholar table to register with the program staff and get your welcome packet containing your name-tag, up-to-date schedule that reflects any last minute changes, and other important information. If you arrive late, please ask for your packet when you check in. ORIENTATION: 5:00 pm. The Group Leader will greet everyone and lead introductions. We will review the program theme, the up-to-date Daily Schedule and any changes, discuss safety guidelines, emergency procedures, roles and responsibilities and answer any questions that you may have. Indicated times are approximate. Program activities, schedules and personnel may need to change due to local circumstances. In the event of changes, we will alert you as quickly as possible. Thank you for your understanding. We have set aside some free time in the schedule for your personal independent exploration. The Group Leader will often be available during free time to accompany informal excursions, activities or meals that have been excluded from the program cost. You are welcome to join if you like, with any associated costs on your own.

Evening: The evening is yours to begin to know your fellow participants, walk around the hotel, unpack or relax.

Day Two: Monday, April 13 - Eckerd College Waterfront Program/Sailing
Breakfast: The buffet breakfast in our meeting room features choices such as fresh fruit, yogurt, cereal, pastry or breakfast bread, and hot items such as eggs (boiled or scrambled) and meat (bacon or sausage).

Morning: Board our motor coach and head to Eckerd College. Begin the day with an introduction to and tour of the Waterfront Program. Discuss the proper attire for the program, and what to do in case of bad weather. Materials will be distributed, you'll learn about the types of boats that are going to be used and about general safety around the waterfront and while on the boats. During the lecture you will learn about sailing terminology, wind direction, points of sail and tacking. After a short refreshment break, go dockside for a class on knots and rigging and the parts of the Colgate Day-sailer that will be a part of your learning experience.

Lunch: Lunch at the Eckerd College CEC Café. There is always a selection of various entrees to choose from in a self-service format with trays. Beverages include hot tea and coffee, juices, milk and soft drinks.

Afternoon: Spend the afternoon sailing (approximately 3 hours). You'll get the feel of the helm and learn about Skipper crew placement. You'll learn how to determine where the wind is coming from, and concentrate on sail trim and tacking. A debrief will take place after sailing and then you'll head back to the hotel for dinner.

Dinner: Dinner in our private dining room with table service.

Evening: Each evening will feature either a lecture in conjunction with the course, a presentation, a movie or entertainment by a local artist.

Day Three: Tuesday, April 14 - Waterfront sailing and lectures
Breakfast: The buffet breakfast in our meeting room features choices such as fresh fruit, yogurt, cereal, pastry or breakfast bread, and hot items such as eggs (boiled or scrambled) and meat (bacon or sausage).

Morning: Board the bus and head back to the Eckerd College Waterfront: Jibe that sail! Flick that line! Lectures to include learning how to manuever downwind with jibing, sailing, heaving and flicking. Rig boats before lunch.

Lunch: Lunch at the Eckerd College CEC Café.

Afternoon: Lectures will cover docking and shortening the sail. The group will then be divided in two and rotate learning about Marlinspike (knots, heaving and flicking) and docking practice. Once dockside you'll learn more about reefing and derigging. A debrief will take place after sailing and then you'll head back to the hotel for dinner.

Dinner: Dinner in our private dining room with table service.

Evening: Each evening will feature either a lecture in conjunction with the course, a presentation, a movie or entertainment by a local artist.

Day Four: Wednesday, April 15 - Field trip / sailing
Breakfast: The buffet breakfast in our meeting room features choices such as fresh fruit, yogurt, cereal, pastry or breakfast bread, and hot items such as eggs (boiled or scrambled) and meat (bacon or sausage).

Morning: Take a break from sailing and board our motor coach for a sailing related field trip.

Lunch: Lunch at the Eckerd College CEC Café.

Afternoon: Today's lecture will consist of reviewing old material and then learning about the various aspects of anchoring. Spend the afternoon sailing (approximately 3 hours). Learn about anchoring, sail trim and reefing. A debrief will take place after sailing and then you'll head back to the hotel for dinner.

Dinner: Dinner in our private dining room with table service.

Evening: Captain Richard Johnson will offer a presentation entitled, "Egmont Key: Sentry of the Bay".

Day Five: Thursday, April 16 - Waterfront for lectures and sailing
Breakfast: The buffet breakfast in our meeting room features choices such as fresh fruit, yogurt, cereal, pastry or breakfast bread, and hot items such as eggs (boiled or scrambled) and meat (bacon or sausage).

Morning: Learn about: (1) Safety and Rules of the Road (2) Charts and Piloting / latitude & longitude; determining distance (3) Right of Way / Man Overboard Recovery

Lunch: Lunch at the Eckerd College CEC Café.

Afternoon: Start with practicing MOB with a life jacket. Then, spend the afternoon sailing (approximately 3 hours). A debrief will take place after sailing and then you'll head back to the hotel for dinner.

Dinner: Tonight’s buffet dinner will be specially prepared and served to you in a private setting on campus.

Evening: Tonight you will enjoy an evening of musical entertainment with Eckerd College's a capella group, The Tritones.

Day Six: Friday, April 17 - Waterfront for sailing and lectures
Breakfast: The buffet breakfast in our meeting room features choices such as fresh fruit, yogurt, cereal, pastry or breakfast bread, and hot items such as eggs (boiled or scrambled) and meat (bacon or sausage).

Morning: End the week with a morning sail.

Lunch: Lunch in our private dining room with table service. This concludes our program.
