Arrive To: 3-5:00pm. Check into the Peabody Court Hotel. Register with your Group Leader in the lobby and pick up your welcome packets.

Dinner: Dinner at the hotel

Evening: After dinner, depart for the Lyric Opera House in Baltimore and see what happens before the concert at a working rehearsal for Friday night's BSO production of Verdi's Nabucco.

BSO presentation / Lunch with the Musicians / Symphony Hall Tour / YOU SING Chorus Rehearsal

Morning: In an interactive class, find out how to run a world-class symphony orchestra. From marketing tips, to organizing logistics, to pulling together a season of exciting programs, learn what it takes to make the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra tick.


Lunch: Lunch with the Musicians: Get to know the BSO's guest conductor, find out what it takes to get up on the podcium and lead both a chorus and orchestra

Afternoon: Go behind the scenes of the Meyerhoff Symphon Hall. Discover whats in the practice rooms. Learn where the percussion instruments are stored, and go back stage.

Dinner: Return to the hotel for dinner

Evening: YOU SING! CHORUS REHEASRAL Sing Verdi's Nabucco as part of the chorus yourself! Learn some basic vocal warm-ups and rehearse the parts of the chorus.

Afternoon: Early dinner at the hotel. Afterwards, prepare for your evening performance with a final run-through with the Choral Conductor.

Evening: Rusty Musician & Road Scholar Chorus Performance: Take the stage at the Lyric Opera with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra and Rusty Musicians, the BSO's highly acclaimed experience for adult non-professional musicians. Perform selections from Verdi's Nambucco to a limited audience.

Afternoon: Board a coach and head into a Baltimore neighborhood school for an in-depth, hands on exporation of Orchkids. A year around after school program, OrchKids, is designed to create social change and nurture promising futures for youth in Baltimore City neighborhoods. Under Baltimore Symphony Orchestra music director Marin Alsop’s artistic leadership and direction, OrchKids is the cornerstone of the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra’s efforts to expland the Orchestra’s relevance within the broad and diverse Baltimore community. In collaboration with several community partners, including Baltimore City Public Schools, OrchKids provides music eduation, instruments, academic instruction, meals, as well as performance and mentorship opportunities at no cost. OrchKids is inspired by Venezuela’s El Sistema, the music program that has tranformed the lives of hundreds of thousands of children in the country’s most impoverished areas in only 40 years.
