- Old Delhi / Qutub Minar/ Lecture on Public Education in India
Note:
Moderately Challenging Day. The group will be required to use the metro system in Delhi as well as some walking.
Breakfast:
Breakfast at accommodation. Then join your group leader for a brief language lesson.
Morning:
Then depart for your first visit to Old Delhi, with its narrow dirt roads, its myriad people and inexpensive and colorful bazaars that keep alive the traditional workmanship for which Delhi has always been famous. Ride on the bicycle rickshaws, which takes you into the heart of Chandni Chowk. Negotiating alleyways, which seemingly get narrower and narrower, you end up at the Jama Masjid, the largest Muslim mosque in India.

Lunch in Old Delhi.

Lecture:Public education systems in India and group discussion on cultural differences and learning styles.

Visit Qutub Minar, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Qutub Minar was constructed with red sandstone and marble, and is the tallest minaret in India, with a height of 237.8 ft and has 379 stairs to reach the top. Then walk back to your accommodation.

Discovering Gandhi Smriti: This house is where the Father of the nation, Mahatma Gandhi lived, received most of his famous visitors and it was here on January 30, 1949,that he was assassinated. The house has since been converted into a museum. Enjoy an exclusive presentation on the life and principles of Gandhi by a guest lecturer.

Lunch at restaurant in New Delhi.
Afternoon:
Visit Humayun's tomb which is the tomb of the Mughal Emperor Humayun. The tomb was commissioned by Humayun's wife Hamida Banu Begum in 1562 AD. It was the first garden tomb on the Indian subcontinent.

Visit Connaught Place which is the heart of New Delhi and spend some time with the guides of the NGO Salaam Baalak Trust, who have developed an exciting city walk through the enchanting streets of the inner-city of Paharganj and the New Delhi railway station area. Nobody knows Delhi's streets better than the young people who are fully trained as guides. These spirited youngsters will share their life journey and take you on a guided walk by visiting the schools that are funded by this walk.

- Service Learning/Discovering Jaipur/City Palace/ Amber Fort

Service Learning:Start your day by tutoring English to the students of Kalwar Public School. You will be immersed in a large Rajasthani school with students in grades 6th-12th. After tutoring prepare lesson plans.

Afternoon:
Jaipur is popularly known as the "Pink City", from the pink-colored sandstone of the buildings in the old walled city. On your exploration of this afternoon, visit: The City Palace which stands in the centre of the city. Part of it is still the Maharaja's residence, while most of the complex has been developed into a museum containing rare manuscripts, fine specimens of Rajput and Mughal paintings, back scratchers, royal apparel and an armory. The observatories, or "Jantar Mantars" as they are commonly known, incorporate multiple buildings of unique form, each with a specialized function for astronomical measurement. These structures with their striking combinations of geometric forms, have captivated the attention of architects, artists, and art historians world-wide.

Discovering the Amber Fort: Enjoy an afternoon exploring the Amber Fort. Amber, the capital of Rajasthan for 6 centuries before Jaipur was built, lies 11 km north of Jaipur. Rising majestically on the slopes of a hill, this 11th century fort and palace complex is a blend of Hindu and Muslim styles. Ride elephants up to the Amber Fort (use jeeps for the descent).

Day Twelve: Saturday, October 12
- Taj Mahal/ Agra Fort/ Itmad-Ud-Daulah’s tomb
Breakfast:
Breakfast at hotel.
Morning:
Set out pre-dawn to watch the rising sun bathe the pristine white marble of the Taj Mahal in warm hues of gold, ochre and orange. Take some time to explore the exquisite grounds and view the highly decorated inner chamber. Return to the hotel for breakfast, then explore Itmad-Ud-Daulah's tomb.
Lunch:
Lunch at local restaurant.
Afternoon:
Exploring Agra Fort and Itmad-Ud-Daulah's tomb, led by your Study Leader visit Itmad-Ud-Daulah's tomb, popularly known as "baby Taj", this is the tomb of Mirza Ghiyash Begh. He became a very powerful person, more so when the Emperor Jahangir married his daughter Noor Jahan. The tomb was designed by Noor Jahan and was the first Mughal building using marble inlay work. Next visit Agra Fort, Originally planned as an impregnable military structure by Akbar, the Agra Fort, over a period of time, acquired all the elegance, lavishness and majesty of an imperial palace. Situated 3 km upstream of the Taj Mahal on the right bank of the Yamuna.
