Dinner: Become acquainted with your fellow Road Scholar participants over dinner at the hotel.

Evening: Receive your schedule of exciting activities. Familiarize yourself with the coordinator and the events that will take place during the course of the week. Welcome from Campbell's and the Historical Society.

Morning: Announcements and overview of the day.

Morning: Present Day: The Family Tree Of The Renowned Washington Apple

Lunch: Lunch on your own to explore local fare.

Afternoon: The Lake Chelan Historical Society was founded in 1970 for the purpose of operating an educational historical museum and resource library. James Lindston headed the foundation and was it's historian for may years. In August of 1970 the Historical Society received a donation of the Seafirst Bank Building in downtown Chelan. Since June 1972, the Society has operated the Lake Chelan Historical Museum in this building. Currently the Museum has approximately 11,000 square feet storage and exhibit floor space on two floors of the building. The collection includes some of the finest local Native American clothing and baskets, as well as a rare collection of films from the early 1900's. One large display room and four smaller rooms exhibit objects dating back to the Chelan Valley pioneer days. The Museum also holds an extensive collection of early photographs of Chelan, Chelan Falls, Manson and Stehekin.

Day Three: Tuesday, October 29 - Rocky Reach Dam/Apple Packing Plant/Tunnel Hill W...

Morning: Tour & Talk

Morning: Field trip to Rocky Reach Dam; presentation on hydroelectric power. More than 7 million people throughout the Northwest benefit from clean, renewable energy produced at Rocky Reach. The project is also nationally recognized for efforts to protect the environment. Presentation of Early History-To-Present Day of Hydroelectric power by education power. Tour the facility and view video Building the Dam.

Lunch: Lunch provided at the Rocky Reach Dam.

Afternoon: Tour Chelan Fruit Company Warehouses. View the procees of the different varities of apples from the apple bins to store boxes. Board bus for wine tasting.

Afternoon: Enjoy wine tasting at Tunnel Hill Winery with views of Lake Chelan and the surrounding mountains. Taste and learn from the wine maker.

Dinner: Dinner on your own.

Evening: Broken Limbs Apple Documentary Video: BROKEN LIMBS explores these hopeful stirrings within agriculture, and outlines ways in which any individual can play a role in saving America's farmers. Told from a hometown perspective, the film presents the stories of farmers attempting to create this new model for agriculture and emerging more sustainable solutions to the crises of recent years and solutions applicable not just to apples and farming, but to nearly any sector of the American economy troubled by the effects of consolidation and globalization.

Day Four: Wednesday, October 30 - Lady of The Lake Boat Trip/Stehekin/Rainbow Falls...
Breakfast: Breakfast

Morning: Depart for Lake Chelan Boat Dock. Board (Lady of The Lake a commercial boat with both inside and outside seating) for uplake tour to Stehekin in the Cascade Mountian Range.

Lunch: Sack lunch aboard Lady Express There are no roads to STEHEKIN. It is a valley and small community beginning at the head of Lake Chelan, and winding into the Cascade Mountains to Cascade Pass. It is located in the North Cascades National Recreation Area and the portal to the North Cascades National Park. Stehekin offers many opportunities for experiencing the fun, the solitude and the relaxing and renewing affects of the great outdoors! Along the way, the Captain gives light narration on the folklore, wild life and points of interest on the Lake. This leisurely excursion is an opportunity to enjoy beauty and relaxation.

Afternoon: Depart boat at Stehekin and board the Rainbow Falls Bus to journey five miles into the Cascade Mountains. View Rainbow Falls - one of the most impressive falls in Washington. It was created when an ancient glacier scraped out the walls of the Stehekin River Valley leaving Rainbow Creek, a tributary, hanging high above the valley floor. After viewing the falls return to Stehekin and board the boat to return to Chelan. On the boat ride you may want to bring cards, games or books. There is inside and outside seating available.

Day Five: Thursday, October 31 - Geology Field Trip / Benson Winery In Manson
Breakfast: Breakfast

Morning: Lake Chelan Geological Ice Age: Fire and Floods. Class on geology of the area and it's glacier-carved lake.

Lunch: Lunch at the hotel

Afternoon: Board bus to view Geological Sites around Chelan and note features associated with the largest floods of the world.

Afternoon: Board bus for Benson Winery: Paul and Kathy Benson, joined by their two sons, Scott & Jeff in 1999 and began what is known as the only 100% Estate Winery in Lake Chelan. The family operates everything from the vineyard to the tasting room! It's all about the location here at Benson Vineyards Estate Winery and we feel we have the perfect setting...from the quietness of the first morning sun, to the dramatic sunset in the evening. You will not find a more beautiful and relaxing area in wine country!
