 Description: Historic Boone Tavern Hotel, celebrating its 100th anniversary as a member of the Historic Hotels of America, has just undergone a major renovation in all 63 guest rooms as well as all public spaces and dining rooms. Solid wood furniture pieces made by students are evident throughout.

Room amenities: All of our 58 guest rooms are elegant and charming and feature hand-crafted cherry, oak, and pine furniture made by Berea College Student Crafts over the past 100 years. Rooms also feature modern conveniences such as color television, private baths, coffee makers, hair dryers, and irons with ironing boards as well as elevator access.

Facility amenities: Whether you prefer traditional or creative southern cuisine, you will find palate pleasing fare in Boone Tavern’s Dining Room. Boone Tavern works in tandem with Berea College utilizing the Student Labor Program to staff the hotel. As you dine, most likely your waiter or waitress will be a Berea College student. Enjoy the quiet and ambiance of the lobby while taking in the daily newspaper or enjoying the free internet service provided. Boone Tavern is located on College Square which consists of many local shops and a coffee shop within walking distance and just a few doors down.

Smoking policies vary by facility. During all group events and activities, smoking is prohibited.

Morning: Programs on Appalachian culture.

Afternoon: Field Trip to Tater Knob Pottery and free time to explore the local arts and crafts shops in the area.

Dinner: Dinner at Boone Tavern

Evening: Musical Performance

Day Four: Wednesday, November 20 - Morning program at Berea College. After lunch transer to Shaker... 
Morning program at Berea College. After lunch transer to Shaker Village and check in. Guided tour of Village by costumed tour guides. Enjoy demonstrations of traditional crafts.

Breakfast: Buffet breakfast at Boone Tavern

Morning: Program on Appalachian Humor and Values and Appalachian music and instruments.

Lunch: Buffet lunch at Boone Tavern

Afternoon: After lunch, transfer to Shaker Village of Pleasant Hill. Participants may decide to drive their own vehicles to Harrodsburg for easier departure on last day of program, distance is 45 miles. Check into rooms at Shaker Village. Guided tour of Shaker Village with costumed tour guides; demonstrations of traditional crafts.

Dinner: Dinner at Shaker Village in candlelit dining room. Salad, entree' with vegetables, corn sticks, dessert and beverage.

Evening: Introduction to the Shakers, to their religion, their lifestyle, their worship and their meaning in the 21st century.

Day Five: Thursday, November 21 - Shaker Herb Industry/Shaker Agriculture/Shakers and the Civil War 
Breakfast: Country buffet breakfast, including breakfast meats, eggs, grits, hot and cold fruit, yogurt, assorted cold cereals, biscuits and pumpkin muffins, juice and beverage.

Morning: The Shakers were considered to be America's first pharmacists; This program on the Shaker herb industry includes discussion of medicinal and culinary herbs, and their uses.

Lunch: Lunch at Shaker Village, including soup and sandwich, fruit, cookies and beverage.

Afternoon: Program on the Shakers' agricultural endeavors and Shaker Village's 21st century efforts to teach sustainable living through demonstrations of historic agriculture.

Dinner: Dinner by candle-light at Shaker Village, including salad, entree' with vegetables, corn sticks, dessert and beverage.

Evening: The Civil War was a tumultuous period for the Shakers at Pleasant Hill; hear from the Shakers in their own words about the invasion of Confederate soldiers into their peaceful village.

Day Six: Friday, November 22 - Shaker Architecture/Shaker Music Performance 
Breakfast: Country breakfast buffet, including breakfast meats, eggs, grits, biscuits and gravy, hot and cold fruit, yogurt, oatmeal, assorted cold cereals, pumpkin muffins, juice and beverage.

Morning: Architecture is one of the enduring legacies of the Shakers. Explore the grace and beauty of Pleasant Hill's architectural gems.

Lunch: Lunch at Shaker Village, including soup and salad, fruit, cookies, and beverage.

Afternoon: Program on the development of Shaker music and worship movements. After the program there will be free time for nature hike or independent exploration.

Dinner: Dinner by candle-light at Shaker Village, including relish bowl of fresh and pickled vegetables, salad, entree' with vegetables, corn sticks, dessert and beverage.

Evening: Our closing event will be a solo performance of Shaker music by candle-light in the 1820 Shaker Meeting House, with its superlative acoustics.

Day Seven: Saturday, November 23 - Transfer to Berea for independent departures. 
Breakfast: Country breakfast buffet at Shaker Village, including breakfast meats, eggs, grits, oatmeal, hots and cold fruit, biscuits and gravy, pumpkin muffins, assorted cold cereals and yogurt.

Morning: Check-out after breakfast. Campus van back to Berea for independent departures. Participants who drove their own vehicles to Harrodsburg and Shaker Village may depart at their leisure.
