These programs get you on your feet and include activities such as walking up to a mile in a day through a city and standing in a museum for a few hours.

A day pack or fanny pack, good quality hiking shoes or boots, rain gear, sunglasses, insect repellent and sunscreen. A broad brimmed hat, walking stick or trekking poles are recommended.

- Check-in. Registration. Orientation.
Afternoon:
An Road Scholar registration desk will be set up near the front desk in the lobby of the hotel. A welcome reception and orientation will be held before dinner. After guests meet and greet there will be a hiking safety talk.
Dinner:
Buffet dinner at the Inn will include; two salads, two entrées (one of which will be vegetarian), vegetables, rice, potatoes, or pasta, a fresh fruit selection, dessert and coffee.

Day Two: Monday, September 09
- Hiking. Yoga. Cultural History Talk.
Breakfast:
Enjoy a hot or cold breakfast at the Shawnee Inn's River Room restaurant overlooking the Shawnee Inn campus.
Morning:
This morning's hike will be on the Appalachian Trail. Hikers will have the option of choosing between hikes of different levels of difficulty, and will be organized into groups based on preference and ability.
Lunch:
We will make our own lunches at the Inn before we leave. A variety of breads, cheeses, meats, condiments, fruit, snacks and drinks will be available to choose from.
Afternoon:
We will learn after-hiking yoga relaxation stretches you can practice on your own during the week
Dinner:
Buffet dinner at the Inn.
Evening:
A talk by a National Park Ranger on the cultural history of the area.

Day Three: Tuesday, September 10
- Harder Hiking. Evening Concert.
Breakfast:
Start the day with a River Room buffet breakfast.
Morning:
Today's hike on the Appalachian Trail will be more strenuous. We will begin our hike at Camp Mohican, which is managed by the Appalachian Mountain Club. Hikers will have the option of choosing between hikes of different levels of difficulty and will be organized into groups based on their preference and ability.
Lunch:
We will make our own lunches prior to leaving the Inn. A variety of breads, cheeses, meats, condiments, snacks, fruit, and drinks will be provided.
Afternoon:
We will finish our morning hike, then return to the Inn for a few hours of relaxation before dinner.
Dinner:
Buffet dinner at the Inn.
Evening:
A free concert on the lawn of the Inn.

Day Four: Wednesday, September 11
- Naturalist Walk. Lunch on your own. Slide Show.
Breakfast:
Healthy breakfast buffet at the River Room.
Morning:
Today we will take it easy, and have a 2-mile guided nature walk with a National Park Service ranger naturalist on a level trail in the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area. Half of the group will take the guided walk, while the other half enjoys a free morning. Guests can enjoy any of the free amenities of the Inn, or choose (at additional cost) to play a round of golf or take a trip on the Delaware River. There are also many other local area attractions including museums, visiting the National Recreation Area, shopping, and antique shops.
Lunch:
Lunch on your own provides an opportunity to experience one of the many local restaurants. Free time activities will be suggested.
Afternoon:
The group who took the guided walk in the morning will have a free afternoon; the group who had free time in the morning will take the guided walk in the afternoon.
Dinner:
Buffet dinner at the Inn.
Evening:
The evening program will be a presentation by our National Park Service ranger naturalist natural features of the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area.

- Hardest hiking. Evening video.

Today's hike on the Appalachian will be the longest and most difficult (but most rewarding) of the week. Hikers will have the option of choosing between hikes of different levels of difficulty, and will be organized into groups based on their ability and preference.
Lunch:
We will make our own lunches before we leave the Inn. A variety of breads, cheeses, meats, condiments, fruit, snacks and drinks will be provided.
Afternoon:
After we finish today's hike, we will have a few hours to relax before dinner.
Dinner:
Our farewell dinner will be at the Gem & Keystone Tavern, a short walk from the Inn.
Evening:

Day Six: Friday, September 13
- AT Thru-Hiker Talk
Breakfast:
Buffet breakfast at the River Room.
Morning:
A fascinating talk by an AT thru-hiker about the joys and challenges of the trail. Check-out and departure.

We will make our own bag lunch for the road.

More than 200 miles of roads wind through scenic valleys, over ridges and past historic buildings. Along the way you may see some ot the area's wildlife, view waterfalls, stop to picnic or take a walk along a trail or an old road.
