- Ragtime/Early Tin Pan Alley/Dixieland/Jazz, and Jekyll History
Breakfast:
Hot breakfast bar at the hotel.
Morning:
Learn about ragtime, including its history and structure, and its different styles. Scott Joplin, Eubie Blake and other prominent ragtime composers will be covered, including complete live piano solo performances of important rags.

Afternoon:
Learn about the millionaires, once representing 1/6 of our nation's wealth, who used this area as a winter retreat. A guide will lead you through the Club and discuss the social history.
Dinner:
Dinner at the Jekyll Island Club.
Evening:
The instructor will talk about life in the colonies; what they wore, what they ate and their way of life. She will bring colonial clothing and dress some of the participants for a "look" at colonial dress.

- Ragtime Jazz, Ecology, Sheet Music
Breakfast:
Hot breakfast bar at the hotel.
Morning:
Begin with an introduction to blues music, its history and structure, including live piano performances of key blues compositions by W. C Handy and other blues pioneers. Continue through the origins of Tin Pan Alley, touching on its prominent composers and lyricists, such as Irving Berlin, and hear some of its most famous works, such as "Alexander's Ragtime Band" and " I Can't Give You Anything But Love (Baby)".

Afternoon:
You will hear about the fascinating Ecology of one of Georgia's Barrier Island. Learn about the inhabitants that call this area home such as the Knobbed Whelk, the State Shell of Georgia and other interesting critters. You'll also hear about the sea turtles who come back year after year to use the beaches of Jekyll Island as a nesting ground.

Dinner at the Jekyll Island Club.
Evening:
See examples of sheet music cover art from the late 1800s to the late 1930s. Learn about some of the artists and several of the publishers. Find out how the sheet music publishing business expanded during the Tin Pan Alley period.

Continue Tin Pan Alley presentation, including live piano performances of selections by Jerome Kern ("They Didn't Believe Me""), Shelton Brooks ("Some Of These Days") and a special section on Walter Donaldson ""My Blue Heaven", "Yes, Sir! That's My Baby!" and many others). Learn why Tin Pan Alley died.

Wednesday afternoon and evening is free to give participants a chance to visit St. Simons Island and enjoy the local cuisine. Dinner on your own.

Day Five: Thursday, January 31
- Dixieland Jazz, Georgia Sea Turtle Excursion
Breakfast:
Hot breakfast bar at the hotel.
Morning:
Explore Dixieland jazz via capsule biographies of some of the most influential Dixielanders, such as Bix Beiderbecke, Fats Waller, Original Dixieland Jazz Band, Eddie Condon, James P. Johnson and Louis Armstrong including live piano performances of tunes for which they are best remembered. Say good-bye with a special wrapup section of the program.

Excursion to the Georgia Sea Turtle Center. Our ecology instructor will continue to amaze you with the many critters that call our area home. Marsh/Beach walk for a hands-on experience of Georgia's ecology.

An entertaining program will be held.

General Overview
Jekyll Island's Historic District has several speciality shops as well as the Jekyll Island Club Hotel, once the clubhouse for many of America's elite business men. Other areas of interest located near Jekyll Island are St. Simons Island, home to several historic places including Fort Frederica, Bloody Marsh Battle site, etc. There are also other interesting islands located near Jekyll Island including Sapelo Island where you will find a plantation once owned by R. J. Reynolds and Cumberland Island home to many wild horses. Other areas of interest near Jekyll Island include Hofwyl-Broadfield Plantation, an old rice plantation and Brunswick Georgia which has many historic buildings and landmarks as well as several antique shops. Jekyll Island is located approximately one hour south of Historic Savannah Georgia.
