Albuquerque, NM
general
Much of Albuquerque retains its Spanish Territorial appeal. Old Town, on the banks of the Rio Grande River, offers adobe village charm filled with restaurants, boutiques, and its square which is positively Old Mexico. A few miles east is the University of New Mexico. About 10 miles north of town is the Sandia Peak Tramway, which climbs over 5,000 feet above Albuquerque to provide a stunning view of the desert floor. For those who want to venture 55 miles north of Albuquerque, Santa Fe is has the feel of Old Spain, with narrow streets, adobe buildings, very upscale shopping, world wide cuisines in its restaurants, visual and performing arts, and a thriving American Indian handicrafts market stretching around the central square.
