Easy
For people looking to exercise their minds more than their bodies. There’s minimal walking and not too many stairs.
Moderate
These programs get you on your feet and include activities such as walking up to a mile in a day through a city and standing in a museum for a few hours.
Active
For people who enjoy walking as much as two miles a day, perhaps to explore historic neighborhoods or a nature trail.
Moderately Challenging
For hardy explorers who enjoy a good physical challenge, spending most of their days on the go.
Challenging
Get ready to keep up with our highest-energy group. These demanding — and rewarding — programs are for seasoned outdoor enthusiasts.

Cruise Ship
Description:
With her sleek silhouette and shimmering elegance, the legendary Crystal Symphony finds a natural home in the world's most glamorous harbors and idyllic ports of call. Generous per-passenger space ratios have become a Crystal trademark, along with forward-facing observation decks, a Palm Court lounge, and a wide teak promenade encircling the ship. A makeover in 2006 refreshed the Bistro Café and shops, reconstructed the casino and Starlite Lounge, and added a new nightclub called Luxe. An even more extensive refurbishment in 2009 transformed the Crystal Penthouses, Lido Café, and Prego Italian restaurant. Accented by a lovely waterfall, the focal point of the central two-deck atrium is a sculpture of two ballet dancers created especially for the space. Crystal Cove, the lobby lounge, is the spot to meet for cocktails as you make your way to the nearby dining room. Throughout the ship, public rooms shine with low-key contemporary style and flow easily from one to the next.

- Cartagena, Colombia
Breakfast:
Breakfast on board the ship.
Morning:
Exclusive Road Scholar Shore Excursion: Introduction to Cartagena. Visit La Popa Monastery, built at the beginning of the 17th century as a humble wooden chapel and later replaced by a more solid construction. Though it is still inhabited by monks, it has been used several times as a military fortress due to its strategic location. Continue to the Rafael Nuñez House and Museum. Rafael Nuñez is one of the most illustrious Cartageneros of all time: President of Colombia four times, he wrote the words of the National Anthem and created the constitution of 1886. The house where he lived and died is now a museum of his life, with exhibits of furniture, official documents and photographs. Our guide there, a trained lawyer and a specialist in the Colombian Constitution, will also give a presentation on the Colombian Constitution. Then enjoy a stroll in the old walled city, passing along the enchanting streets lined with Spanish Colonial Houses with their flower bedecked balconies as well as Las Bóvedas, consisting of 23 old dungeons constructed between 1792 and 1796 by the Spaniards and later used by the military for storage. They are now used as souvenir shops.

- Travel through the Panama Canal
Breakfast:
Breakfast on board the ship.
Morning:
Attend a group lecture presented by your Road Scholar lecturer on board.
Lunch:
Lunch on board the ship.
Afternoon:
Full transit through the Panama Canal, with onboard commentary provided by a Panamanian canal pilot. One of the largest and most difficult engineering projects ever undertaken, the canal had an enormous impact on shipping between the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans, replacing the long and treacherous route via the Drake Passage and Cape Horn at the southernmost tip of South America. A ship sailing from New York to San Francisco via the canal travels 5,900 mi. well under half the 14,000 mi. route around Cape Horn. The concept of a canal near Panama dates to the early 16th century. The first attempt to construct a canal began in 1880 under French leadership, but was abandoned after 21,900 workers died, largely from disease (particularly malaria and yellow fever) and landslides. The United States launched a second effort, incurring a further 5,600 deaths but succeeding in opening the canal in 1914.

Independent Shore Exploration of Panama City: Situated at the narrowest point in the Americas, Panama City has been the main passageway between the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans since it was founded in the 16th century. One of the most popular places to visit is Casco Viejo, or “Old City,” built by the Spaniards with walls on all sides to protect from pirate invasions. Neighborhoods within the city change drastically from block to block, with modern high-rises on one corner, slums on the next, and luxury homes right after that. Locals take it all in stride, and Panama City has been named by International Living magazine as one of the top five places in the world to retire for eight years running.

The town boasts an 18-hole golf course and some of the best resort hotels on the southern coast. Its setting couldn't be more ideal for either the eco-activities or the simple act of relaxation. More precisely called Bahías de Huatulco, or Bays of Huatulco, the area encompasses nine pristine bays, 36 beaches, innumerable isolated coves and the promise of remaining ruggedly beautiful-over 40,000 of its acres have been set aside as ecological preserve.

Day Seventeen: Thursday, November 15
- Puerto Vallarta, Mexico
Breakfast:
Breakfast on board the ship.
Morning:
Independent Shore Exploration of Puerto Vallarta: Embraced by rugged tropical mountains on one side and the beautiful Banderas Bay on the other, Puerto Vallarta is second only to Acapulco when it comes to the Mexican Riviera's leading resort cities. White stucco houses are capped with red-tile roofs and surrounded by bougainvillea-lined cobblestone streets. Native women who beat their laundry along riverbanks as busy fishing boats return to port illustrate a lifestyle that has been maintained for decades. Nearby, sophisticated restaurants, luxury hotels, smart boutiques and lively nightclubs bear testament to the changes wrought on this quiet seaside city since the 1960s. Life here has never been quite the same since the filming of the movie "Night of the Iguana" and the worldwide publicity accorded the romance of its stars, Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor. Puerto Vallarta brims with life. Shop for leather goods, shell and silver jewelry, hand-embroidered blouses or painted figures from Oaxaca. Explore cobblestone streets and picturesque alleyways filled with the scents and bustling energy of Mexico.
