Afternoon: LECTURE: "The Wrong Stuff" Here are the aerial oddballs from the obscure corners of aircraft design. Pioneering failures or badly designed futuristic concepts; outdated or ahead of their times, these designs were brilliantly strange or perhaps strangely brilliant. Not all were aerial Edsels. Some were aeronautically sound but sadly outclassesd by contemporary adversaries. Others were engineering successes but simply too expensive to build. One might think that most designers that produced flying flops or failures were crackpots or scheming entrepreneurs, but many were not. Some of the aircraft selected as "the wrong stuff" can be debated from many different perspectives. Lecturer Richard Weinstein examines some of them.
