Day Four: Wednesday, February 25 - Juliette Gordon Low Birthplace / Isaiah Davenport...
Note: Walking to/from field trip and meal locations, up to approximately 1.5 miles at a comfortable pace; some uneven terrain.

Breakfast: In the DeSoto Grille.

Morning: Savannah has been the home of innumerable noteworthy individuals. One of them was Juliette Gordon Low, founder of the Girl Scouts. The beautiful home where she was born and raised — known officially as the Wayne-Gordon House — now serves as a National Center for the organization. Led by an expert, we’ll explore this handsome English Regency house that became Savannah’s first registered National Historic Landmark in 1965 and learn about the families who had a lasting impact on our historic city and beyond.

Lunch: At a lovely restaurant in the Historic District, enjoy a casual lunch with choice of sandwiches, side dish, and dessert. The 17Hundred90 Inn and restaurant is filled with history, charm, and even a ghost story or two!

Afternoon: During a late afternoon field trip to the Isaiah Davenport House, we’ll have an expert-led, detailed look into the fascinating aspects of 19th century Savannah people and events. This stately Federal-style house we would call a mansion, constructed in 1820 by master builder Isaiah Davenport for his family, is one of the oldest brick structures in the city. Changing hands, it gradually deteriorated over generations until threatened with demolition in 1955. Then, as the first act of the Historic Savannah Foundation, it was saved, restored, and opened to the public as a museum in 1963. Learn about the house, its inhabitants, and Savannah’s historic preservation movement.

Dinner: Enjoy a relaxed, plated dinner with salad, choice of three entrées, side dish, and dessert; adult and specialty beverages available for purchase. The River House Seafood Restaurant is situated directly on the Savannah River with breathtaking views of massive cargo ships occasionally passing by just outside the windows.

Evening: At leisure.
