Day Two: Tuesday, July 01 - Big Trees Day
Note: How many people does it take to encircle the trunk of a giant tulip tree with their arms? There's only one way to find out! Big trees are rare in the eastern U.S. due to extensive logging practices that occurred a century ago. But the Smokies still contain some examples of primeval virgin forest, and the biggest trees anywhere east of the Mississippi. Today we'll hike to an old growth forest and spend some time getting to know this special place.

Breakfast: Breakfast may be eggs, biscuits, and sausage, pancakes, or French toast. We also have a great cereal and fruit bar.

Morning: Tremont naturalists will introduce participants to a spectacular old-growth eastern deciduous forest.

Lunch: A packed lunch in the field

Afternoon: 130 tree species are found here--more than the entire continent of Europe! We'll continue our forest exploration.

Dinner: Delicious and hearty local fare served up by our chefs.

Evening: Tremont naturalists will take you on an evening stroll and share the wonders of nighttime in the Smokies.
