ActiveFor people who enjoy walking as much as two miles a day, perhaps to explore historic neighborhoods or a nature trail.
Moderately ChallengingFor hardy explorers who enjoy a good physical challenge, spending most of their days on the go.

Day Two: Monday, March 10 - Lectures on Team Strategy & Scorecards and Colleg...
Lectures on Team Strategy & Scorecards and College v. Pro Baseball/ behind the scenes at Tropicana Field / 100 years of Spring Training

Breakfast: Buffet breakfast at the hotel with at least one hot item. Assorted fruit, juice, coffee and tea.

Morning: LECTURE: Start the morning with Eckerd College Baseball Coach Bill Mathews as he discusses the similarities and differences between college & pro baseball. Enjoy a brief refreshment break between classes. Coach Mathews, continues his presentation with a walk through team strategy, roster lineups and how to use a scorecard. A long career of coaching and his position as the Tampa Bay Rays official MLB scorer uniquely qualify Coach Mathews to explain such things as what constitutes an "error" and how he makes on-the-spot decisions during a game.

Lunch: Boxed lunch on the bus

Afternoon: Board our Eckerd College coach for a visit to Tropicana Field, home of the Tampa Bay Rays. Rays Senior Advisor and long time bay area sportscaster Dick Crippen leads a behind the scenes tour of the Trop. Originally named the Florida Suncoast Dome and then the ThunderDome, Tropicana Field's 1.1 million square feet include unique design features and fan amenities found nowhere else in the Major Leagues. Mr. Crippen leads you onto the field to show off the all-dirt base paths and state-of-the art turf, then along the interactive "streets" full of fun and food for fans of all ages. Visit the private club area and stand in their booth to see the game as broadcasters do. Learn the connection to Brooklyn's historic Ebbetts Field. After the tour, we stop at the Ted Williams Museum and Hitters Hall of Fame. Fans can view an array of different artifacts and pictures of the "Greatest hitter that ever lived." These memorable displays range from Ted Williams' days in the military through his professional playing career. This museum is dedicated to some of the greatest players to ever "lace 'em up," And even the diehard Yankees fans will have plenty to gobble up their attention as they are drawn from one case to the next. There is an M & M tribute wall dedicated to Yankee greats Roger Maris and Mickey Mantle. But what would a Hitters Hall of Fame be without the likes of Babe Ruth, Reggie Jackson, Don Mattingly, Wade Boggs, and George Brett? All have their own displays. See the famous Babe Ruth baseball signed for Ted Williams.

Dinner: Dinner at the Eckerd College Continuing Education Dining Hall. The buffet at the campus dining hall includes hot entrees, side dishes, salad bar, soup, deli meats, bread, fresh fruit, desserts and beverages. Self-service format with trays.

Evening: Local historian and author, Jim Schnur shares his loves of history baseball telling the story of spring training. St. Petersburg celebrates the centennial of that special Florida pastime this spring

Trip to History Museum/ Spring Training Game Orioles at Yankees/TV Broadcaster Dewayne Staats

Breakfast: Buffet breakfast at the hotel with at least one hot item. Assorted fruit, juice, coffee and tea.

Morning: Our day begins with a field trip to the St. Petersburg Museum of History. Pinellas County's oldest museum was founded in 1920 as the St. Petersburg Memorial Historical Society. Through the determination and effort of Mary Wheeler Eaton and others, the Society began collecting artifacts, natural history specimens, archival documents, photographs, papers, and "boxes of unknown treasures that were just dropped on our doorstep during the night." In 1922, the Society became incorporated and the city of St. Petersburg provided the use of an old aquarium building (located on the same site as today's Museum) for the public display of the Museum's collections. The highlight of our visit today is the museum's newest exhibit, the world class SHRADER'S LITTLE COOPERSTOWN which is recognized by the Guinness Book of World Records as the largest private collection of autographed baseballs in the world. You see balls signed not just by baseball players, but also by movie stars, presidents, and others who will surprise you. The exhibit – made up of more than 4,600 baseballs, documents, story boards and video screens – connects America’s national pastime with historical events from the region and around the world. Stories and artifacts of baseball legends like Babe Ruth, Jackie Robinson, “Shoeless” Joe Jackson and Joe DiMaggio as well as leagues such as the Women’s Professional Baseball League and the Negro Leagues, take visitors on a journey through America’s and St. Petersburg’s rich history. This rare collection of memorabilia also explores more than 100 years of Tampa Bay’s own history as a Spring Training destination for more than a dozen teams, including the Yankees, Phillies, Pirates, Blue Jays, Cubs, Cardinals, Mets and Rays. We then board to return to Tampa and Steinbrenner Field for a game

Lunch: Box lunches are provided for eating on the bus or at the park

Afternoon: Spring Training Game Baltimore Orioles at New York Yankees After the game, board the bus for return to the college in time for dinner

Dinner: Dinner at CEC Dining Hall
