Dinner: Enjoy a good, traditional style dinner with a Southern accent, served buffet style in a private dining area. All dinners for the week will be in this venue.

Jamestown Settlement, Jamestown Island (where the settlers first landed) and an amazing Musician

Note: At both Jamestowns there will be a good deal of walking on gravel, shell, and grassy paths. The Settlement walk includes a gently sloping hill and narrow gangplanks up onto the reproduction ships. The Island walk round trip is about a mile. Grandparents must stay with their grandchildren on this and most of the other field trips and cannot turn them over to the guides unsupervised.

Breakfast: Start the day with a generous buffet breakfast in our private dining area.

Morning: Field Trip: "Jamestown Settlement" Take a guided walk through interpretive areas that showcase a reconstructed Indian village, fort, and sailing ships. Explore the museum as well as participate in interactive classroom time where participants can handle and even dress up in reproduction artifacts.

Lunch: Enjoy a delicious box lunch on site at the Settlement Café. The meal includes a sandwich, pickle, cookie, and beverage.

Afternoon: Field Trip: "Jamestown Island" Explore the actual site of the original first permanent English colony in North America. The visit includes a tour of Visitor Center galleries, a marvelous introductory film and exploration of the new Archaearium where artifacts from the recently unearthed original fort are displayed. Depending on site schedule, you may have the opportunity to observe ongoing archaeological work at the original fort site.

Evening: Evening Entertainment: "Rare Colonial Instruments" An amazingly talented musician, dressed in period clothing, demonstrates instruments of the colonial period, including a reproduction of the glass armonica invented by Benjamin Franklin.

Colonial Williamsburg, including the Capitol, Gaol, shops, and fun in the mud at the Brickyard; Colonial Games and Crafts

Note: Today's field trip includes nearly two miles of walking over cobblestones and brick and shell paths. While there will be brief rests in some of the buildings, participants should be prepared to be on their feet for almost four hours.

Breakfast: Breakfast in our private dining area.

Morning: Field Trip: "Colonial Williamsburg" Visit a number of historical buildings including the Capitol where Jefferson and Patrick Henry spoke and the Gaol that imprisoned paupers and pirates. Stroll by fields where animal breeds from the colonial era graze. Poke your head into some of the shops to see how things were made and sold in the 18th century. Help make bricks (shoes must come off!) in the Brickyard.

Lunch: A lighter mid-day fare will be served in our private dining area.

Afternoon: Activities: "Colonial Games and Crafts" Learn to write with a quill pen, make a folded paper box, dress up in colonial clothes and play a variety of lawn and parlor games. Grandparents will be treated to a special presentation on colonial life while the grandchildren play.

Evening: Free Evening: A variety of activities will be suggested for you to choose to enjoy on your own.

Colonial Williamsburg, including the Governor's Palace and the College of William & Mary; African-American songs and stories

Note: The field trip will again include a good deal of walking, with some brief periods of rest at a few of the sites. Expect to be standing or moving most of the time for about three hours.

Breakfast: Breakfast in our private dining area.

Morning: Field Trip: "Colonial Williamsburg" Continue to explore the buildings, gardens, and other sites in the Restored Area. At the Governor's Palace, learn how the royal representative in Virginia lived, then get lost and found in the garden maze. Visit the campus of the College of William and Mary and tour the historic Wren Building, the oldest college building in America in continuous use. Explore some of the trade shops such as the blacksmith, wig maker and cooper (barrel maker) to gain a better understanding of colonial life.

Lunch: Enjoy the ambiance of a Colonial Tavern as you are entertained by strolling musicians and local personalities from the past. Taste southern comfort food in the charm of Shields Tavern, a reconstructed building with a history all its own. In the 18th century, public houses were gathering places for residents and travelers. Partake of a dining experience similar to one enjoyed by patriots like George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, and Patrick Henry.

Afternoon: Free Time: Return to Colonial Williamsburg, enjoy the pool at the hotel, or just sit back and relax.

Dinner: Dinner will again be at the hotel in our private dining area.

Evening: Evening Program: "African-American Music, Storytelling, and Dancing", Listen to and join in with a talented singer/storyteller as she takes you through three centuries of African-American culture from its roots in Africa to its triumph with the end of slavery.

Yorktown Battlefield and Victory Center Museum; Interactive experiences in the Encampment and Farmstead; The Great Debate

Note: The visit to Yorktown includes a good deal of standing and walking on pebble and grass paths with some slightly hilly ground. The earthworks are fairly steep to climb and the Surrender Pavilion is a good ways from the parking area.

Breakfast: Breakfast in our private dining area.

Morning: Field Trip: "Hands-on Program at the Yorktown Victory Center" Participate in a visit to the museum galleries and interpretive sites. Help turn flax into linen thread at the farm site and practice military drills in the encampment. Learn about Revolutionary War medicine and cooking and peek into a tobacco barn.

Lunch: Today's lunch comes from a popular local eatery and includes sandwich or wrap, pickle, brownie, and soft drink.

Afternoon: Field Trip: "Yorktown Battlefield" Explore the actual site of the siege of Yorktown that took place in 1781 where American and French forces defeated the British and won the Revolutionary War. Visit the galleries at the Visitor Center and end with a walk across Surrender Field where the British army lay down its arms before George Washington's forces.

Dinner: Dinner will again be at the hotel in our private dining area.

Evening: Evening Program: Freedom Debate: Decide whether to stand with the Patriots or the Loyalists and be prepared to defend your choice in a spirited debate moderated by a character from colonial America. Use the information you have gathered during the week's field trips to defend your position.

Morning: Class: "Colonial Foodways", Participate in the preparation of an authentic (and delicious) colonial dessert as you learn about typical foods and their preparation. Class: "Colonial Dance" Just like the people of colonial times, follow your dessert by putting on your dancing shoes and prancing around the room to the strains of music of the time period. Grandchildren and grandparents can both learn the steps of the minuet and other colonial dances with the lively assistance of a talented dance mistress. Graduation Ceremony

Lunch: Pick up a box lunch with sandwich, fruit, chips, cookie, and beverage before heading home.
