This monastery is pure fantasy entering from the west there are tree-trunk like columns seem to grow into the ceiling of stone. Vasco da Gama is interred in the lower chancel, and the rows of seats are Portugal's first Renaissance woodcarvings. Walk into the honey-stone cloisters, driping with organic detail in the scalloped arches, turrets and columns. Approximate entrance fee is EU 6.00.
