FIELD TRIP TO THE GETTY VILLA
Oil magnate J. Paul Getty used some of his vast wealth to amass an incredible art and antiquities collection, first displayed in his ranch house on a bluff overlooking the Pacific. In the early 70s, he had a Romanesque villa constructed next to his house to be a permanent museum for his collection. The Malibu Villa, modeled after the partially excavated Villa dei Papiri in Italy, became the home of the J. Paul Getty Museum in 1974.
In 1997 the Getty Villa was closed and the collection was relocated to the new hill-top Getty Center in Brentwood (Los Angeles). After a nine-year, $275 million renovation and expansion, the J. Paul Getty Museum at the Getty Villa re-opened as a home to the Museum's Antiquities Collection. The Greek, Roman and Etruscan antiquities are arranged by themes including Gods and Goddesses, Dionysos and the Theater and Stories of the Trojan War, housed within Roman-inspired architecture and surrounded by Roman-style gardens.
Explore the museum and grounds on your own or join public tours. Lunch: To give you greater flexibility in viewing the Villa collection at your leisure, lunch will be on your own.
The Cafe at the Getty Villa serves casual Mediterranean fare and has indoor and outdoor seating. Menu choices include salads, soups, panini, pizzas, pastas, vegetables, and desserts.
The Coffee Kiosk near the Cafe entrance offers coffee, hot tea, espresso drinks, lemonade, and bottled beverages, as well as grab-and-go items including house-made soup, hot and cold sandwiches, salads, and a selection of baked goods, desserts, and ice cream.Dinner: New Year's Eve Dinner at hotelLodging: Hilton Woodland Hills HotelMeals Included: Breakfast, Dinner
The 124th Rose Parade presented by Honda, themed "Oh, the Places You'll Go!", will take place Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2013, at 8 a.m. (PST), featuring spirited marching bands from throughout the nation, majestic floral floats, and high-stepping equestrian units. Dr. Jane Goodall will serve as the Grand Marshal of the 2013 Tournament of Roses festivities.
The 2013 Rose Parade theme encourages us to picture the journey of our lives once untethered from the perceived constraints of convention. One is encouraged to reflect on their passions and to conceive of a plan to make them realities.

After every Rose Parade, the floral masterpieces are parked along Sierra Madre and Washington Boulevards in Pasadena and exhibited for visitors to walk by and see in close detail the design and workmanship that goes into these floats. Visitors are able to walk almost within arm's reach of the floats and appreciate for themselves the creativity and the imagination of the floral displays. This has been a Pasadena tradition for over 100 years. Don't forget your camera!Afternoon: HOTEL CHECK OUT: Our program concludes when we return to the hotel at approximately 11:00AM. It is best that you have already checked out of your room and brought luggage down to the front desk. Arrange transportation to the airport in advance via Super Shuttle to both Burbank and LAX.
